The Ithaca Commons is a nice place to spend an afternoon or evening with friends/family. There is a good amount of unique restaurants to try, many having outdoor seating. The boutiques and shops are nice to stroll through as well, as long as they are open.

I was lucky to have found easy street parking considering there was a street fair going on that I wasn't even aware of! Lots of goodies found at the fair. There are stores and restaurant that are part of the downtown that you can also visit if there isn't a street fair going on.

I am an alumnus of Cornell U, class of 1980. Over 41 yrs , I have returned to Ithaca many times.
My husband and I returned this weekend and spent a good deal of time walking from our motel on Rt 13 into downtown Ithaca and Collegetown.
My disappointment at seeing the sad state of disrepair and litter was tremendous.
I lived on Eddy street '79/'80, I know about the slumlords that existed then (I am still owed $137.50 security deposit unfairly held), however, the state of downtown Ithaca is far worse.
Puzzling, that in a liberal college setting, full of BLM signs, love is love, and all the talk about Global warming, that the college students of today care so little for their own local environment. Very sad!
Whoever may read this in Ithaca, please take note of the local conditions.
If you plan to visit, I would not suggest walking the streets of Ithaca.
Maybe it will be better a few years from now when we hope to return again.

I’m not a big shopper, but I am a huge advocate for pedestrian spaces and community hubs. Ithaca Commons has a ton of boutique shops, restaurants, and outdoor dining. Many common areas to sit and relax, people watch. Very walkable, with murals and street art, with some street vendors and playground spaces. Live music as well. We came here to dine, which is the main reason we would return, but most people would find plenty of reasons to return regularly.

Cute downtown area with lots and of local shops & gems. This part is very clean and full of life, the areas just around vary tremendously in their upkeep. There was a lot of construction in the downtown area when we visited so we found parking a little tricky.

There a some shops and restaurants, but parking is always a nightmare. I have always walked around the area and checked out everything in the day time. Not sure I would do it late at night.

Downtown Ithaca was full of stores and cafes. Many people were walking around the pedestrian square. It was tough to locate parking but I succeeded to find it on a side street a few blocks away. It looked like a less tropical, less exclusive Lincoln Road in Miami Beach.

Nice town to visit during the day. Did some shopping, had a great lunch because there a many restaurants to choose from. But, went back in to town Saturday night and could not find one music venue except a hopping dance club that catered to young adults.

Not much was happening on the Sunday we visited. There is a great gift shop that had glass putters, but not much was open. A few restaurants were doing a good business. Parking in the garage was free. Two street musicians added some drama to the commons.

Is Ithaca really full of homeless, drug-users, and overall shady people as some reviewers mentioned? It's also described as dirty, full of dilapidated houses and with many out-of-business stores and restaurants.
