Restaurant scene okay but the shopping is pretty sad.
We were disappointed in the shopping. There were only two store that I went into and bought at both. I went for The Cornell store store and bought swag for 9 grandkids. It wasn’t any higher than any college town and the service was pleasant . The toy store was a good one as well. The other stores were hard to describe what they were hoping for. We found Simeon’s on the Commons and that was great. The other restaurant weren’t as inviting to us. I am glad we went but probably won’t return when we visit Ithaca again. Parking wasn’t bad and the parking app worked.

Nice restaurants but somehow the place lacks vibrancy
We walked around the Ithaca Commons and the surrounding area. There were many nice restaurants and shops but maybe because of the presense of a group of protesters, there were not many tourists in the area. Somehow the place did not look inviting.

Place to eat and place to shop
I like the common squares of small towns where people meet for coffee, food or some shopping. This is a pedestrian strip which was well presented. Places to eat and places to shop. One hour is probably enough as a tourist to visit but I can see how people meet there and how it can be a vibrant place at times.

We were mostly in the Collegetown section of the city. It is full of a variety of coffee shops, restaurants and shops. We enjoyed lunch at a little fusion restaurant called Lunas. I had a maple bourbon bacon cheeseburger with grilled onions and goat cheese that would simply melt in your mouth. It was so good that I wish I had one right now!! We thought it was all nice.

Ithaca has done a nice job of creating a downtown with a lot of great restaurants and shops to get souvenirs, gifts, and a lot of other things. Type in Ithaca Commons to get to the downtown area.

The Ithaca Commons is a nice place to spend an afternoon or evening with friends/family. There is a good amount of unique restaurants to try, many having outdoor seating. The boutiques and shops are nice to stroll through as well, as long as they are open.

I was lucky to have found easy street parking considering there was a street fair going on that I wasn't even aware of! Lots of goodies found at the fair. There are stores and restaurant that are part of the downtown that you can also visit if there isn't a street fair going on.

I am an alumnus of Cornell U, class of 1980. Over 41 yrs , I have returned to Ithaca many times.
My husband and I returned this weekend and spent a good deal of time walking from our motel on Rt 13 into downtown Ithaca and Collegetown.
My disappointment at seeing the sad state of disrepair and litter was tremendous.
I lived on Eddy street '79/'80, I know about the slumlords that existed then (I am still owed $137.50 security deposit unfairly held), however, the state of downtown Ithaca is far worse.
Puzzling, that in a liberal college setting, full of BLM signs, love is love, and all the talk about Global warming, that the college students of today care so little for their own local environment. Very sad!
Whoever may read this in Ithaca, please take note of the local conditions.
If you plan to visit, I would not suggest walking the streets of Ithaca.
Maybe it will be better a few years from now when we hope to return again.
