Great few hours in Lokobe with lots of wildlife
It was a wonderful few hours in Lokobe. We had 2 guides from the nearby village which I highly recommend. I’m not sure we would have seen anything without them! They spotted tiny chameleons, the very cool and camouflaged leaf tailed geckos, and the sportive lemurs. We also saw a boa on the way out. It’s definitely worth going to Lokobe - we had the place to ourselves and enjoyed a lovely time on the beach afterwards. Carry insect repellent as the mosquitos are quite bad!

Great place for plants and wildlife
Lokobe was on my list of places to visit in Nosy Be. But travelling solo, the tours I found on the web were just too expensive (although they were supposed to be group tours). Then I came across Alex of Nosy Be Adventures. I contacted him 1 month before the trip and the price he offered was unbeatable, and it was a private tour. Tsaradia cancelled my flight to Nosy Be when I was already waiting at the airport and I had to reschedule everything last minute, including the visit to Lokobe. But Alex was very understanding and accommodating. He not only organised and accompanied me on the visit, he also helped to inform my hotel that I could not arrive due to flight cancellation by going to the hotel himself. He gave a lot of valuable information like the fares of tuktuk to variable places. Well, as a foreign tourist, of course I could not get those fares, but at least that gave me an idea and I did not get too ripped off. He was very responsive to my questions and was quick in his answers. He is fun to be with and speaks very fluent English. Very recommendable. Alex and Nosy Be Adventures are on Facebook.

    Great day trip
Lokobe is a good day trip in Nosy Be, where you first go to a village, from where you take the canoe to the next village, which can be a bit rough for around 40 minutes. When at the village you want 10 minutes to go to the park and then you will try to find different wildlife species. On our trip we found many birds and lizards. We found a giant hognose snake and a Madagascar ground boa (not a boa constrictor, which lives in South America) very close. We also found some very small and big chameleon species. For lemurs, we found 3 groups of black lemurs, a Claire's mouse lemur sleeping and 4 Nosy Be sportive lemurs sleeping in trees. Afterwards we had a lunch in the first village (a very tasty one!) before heading back to the first village by canoe. On the way bay we had a motor on our boat but that is not for everyone. This is a fantastic day trip, you should absolutely do when in Nosy Be.

Beautiful place to visit. The pirogue ride was very scenic. The walk to see the lemurs & the boas was exciting.
The beach was the best. We even saw a whale jump unexpectedly

I went with Alex to Lokobe and had a great experience on a pirogue over to the reserve and a few hours walking around seeing all the animals.

Amazing! So much wildlife, the lemurs especially were incredible. And rowing the boat there was such a cool experience.

Tips:
- Wear walking boots rather than trainers as the ground can be steep / slippy.
- Wear shorts and t-shirt. Trousers or long sleeves will be far too hot.
- Bring mosquito spray with lots of DEET. As long as you have plenty of DEET on mosquitoes will keep away.

This place is awesome! The trip to Lokobe is well worth it -- curious Lemurs, the world's smallest chameleons, snakes, frogs, birds of paradise... The place is amazing! The animals are all wild in this special reserve that has only recently been open to the public, after being reserved for scientists and conservation experts for a long time. It therefore has an "untouched" and wild feel to it, and it is so much better as an experience than seeing the tame Lemurs that jump on tourists to be fed at other places on the island. The animals really are in their natural habitat here. The wild Lemur's were so inquisitive that they came within 1m of us to have a look at us anyway -- feeding them at a zoo is not necessary!

The guides are knowledgeable, and the walk is not strenuous (in October, at least). The paths are clear, and you only get brushed by leaves on the legs really. We walked the paths fine in shorts and basic shoes, and only saw one mosquito the entire time we we there, but others have had trouble with them so definitely come prepared with long trousers, long-sleeved tops and deet repellant!

My only complaint is that some other guides were giving in to tourist request to pick up animals like snakes for photos, or poking sticks quite roughly through leaves to find them, which could injure the smaller ones. We feel that all the wildlife should be seen from a distance, and not physically disturbed, so this was disappointing to see -- please discourage your guide from doing this if they offer.

We used Alex from Nosy Be Adventures (phone number on their facebook page) as a guide, and he was absolutely fantastic. Would 100% recommend. English was fantastic and he was very easy to communicate with over whatsapp. He even came to pick us up and drop us off from the hotel, and the tour was half the price of the ones organised through the hotel (and private for two people, rather than a large group)!

We would definitely recommend Nosy Be adventures. By using them, you can ensure that money goes to Nosy Be communities and citizens.

Thank you again, Alex.

This place is just teeming with life. I only stayed a relatively short time, and saw several species of snakes (including a large boa constrictor), several species of Lemur, some chameleons, and frogs. I was told there are no venomous snakes here, which is reassuring when tromping around the forest. I had to paddle over here and the jungle was quite hot and humid, so make sure you are adequately hydrated when visiting. There were some mosquitoes and they quickly found the one spot on my leg I forgot to spray. That said, it is an excellent place to visit to see wildlife.

Great wildlife spotting here with our guide, from Black lemurs to snakes, lizards, owls with their youngsters and several nocturnal lemurs. The addition of paddling your own canoe/pirogue with the guide through the mangroves makes this a bit more special.
Well worth it.
