The Flushing Remonstrance was a 1657 petition to Director-General of New Netherland Peter Stuyvesant asking that freedom of Religion be granted was signed here. An important processor of the First Amendment. The building is in poor shape.

If you are staying at the Marco Laguardia Hotel (which I have reviewed previously) I would recommend you visit both the Friends Meeting House (directly across Northern Blvd from the hotel) and the Bowne House (roughly 4 blocks further away). In the days of Nieuw Amsterdam, Flushing was a distant Quaker Settlement and Jacob Bowne was one of the congregants.... More

It is a little bit disappointed for the trip. There is no access to the building as construction is going on. The tall fences are all around the site, giving you a hard time even to get a glimpse of the building. It might be helpful if there is info available online about its plan of re-opening.

The Bowne House has preserved the original artifacts. You walked through history as you walked through the place. It was interesting to see how history was made. This trip is for families, older students, and history buffs. It is a no touch display. Great house to visit. You can compare it to what we have today. That's very interesting!
