About
Plan a fun beach day at this beach in Far Rockaway. With its great surf, it’s the perfect spot for surfers of all levels. If you prefer to stick closer to the boardwalk, check out the area between 90th to 98th street. Here, you’ll find plenty of tasty food options, from tacos to lobster rolls. You can also grab some beach essentials and cute beachwear from the local stores. It can get busy so try to visit early in the morning or on a weekday. And don't worry about parking—you can easily take the subway or hop on the Rockaway Ferry from Wall Street or Sunset Park. – Tripadvisor

    Refreshing!!
I was in the ocean today and I thought of something very important that kind of changed my view on the world!! The thing I thought of was jerk salmon probably comes from the Atlantic Ocean because it’s very salty which is why it’s a jerk!! I have never been called salty because I believe I am a good spirited man!! I go here every summer and I very much like going into the ocean!! I happen to think that oceans are very interesting and it’s crazy that squids and whales and jellyfish all live inside of them!! I am a fan of jellyfish because they look cool but I know they want to sting me so I don’t go near them!! The water was very nice and the lifeguards were very alert to people not being in the right place!! There are a lot of stores and restaurants and things and I got fish and chips which made me feel good!! I enjoy coming here a lot!!

We took the MTA cruise to Rockaway Beach Queens from Pier 11 in lower Manhattan.
We took the MTA cruise from Pier 11 in lower Manhattan to Rockaway Beach Queens. We saw excellent views of downtown Manhattan, Governor's Island, and Coney Island. At $4 per person each way, the cruise was an incredible bargain.

Beach 97th street of Rockaway Beach
My family and I went to Rockaway Beach in July 2023. We were there on a Thursday. After looking for about 5 minutes we were able to find street parking a block or two away from the beach. (There is a free public parking on 95th street which was completely full by 11 a.m. on a Thursday. ) We settled near Beach 97-98th street on the beach. While the location was convenient due to a public bathroom and a couple of food places nearby, we were right by the lifeguard’s seat at the beach. The lifeguard was constantly blowing his whistle throughout the day trying to keep the beachgoers safe and steer them off the rocks, other danger. I would come back to the Rockaway Beach, only this time I would settle further away from the lifeguard’s tower if I could.

It's a good beach to go to. Near public transportation. Amusement areas for children are a part of several stops along the boardwalk. People from the 5 boroughs often trek to it.

Well it’s a really good place to come for a day out when the city gets boiling. Massive sandy beach. Sea looked a bit murky. The massive concrete jungle built behind is like a massive Bermondsey council block. Some good bars can be found. Uncomplicated and easy to get to.

I did not intentionally want to come here, i just had an extra day in NYC and my hotel was here. The beach is fantastic white sand and was empty. I took my drone for a flight and got some amazing pictures. Also good for plane spotters JKF is not far away and planes fly over really low.

A great hidden gem in NYC. The boardwalk is always a great place for a stroll or people watching. There is a restaurant on the boardwalk that always seems to have live music in the evenings. The sunsets are spectacular and the beach is right there for a swim or to watch the ships go by.

Rockaways has experienced a huge renaissance in the last 15 years. From a “hood” and “ghetto” riddled area now it has been turned into a NYC riviera and Mecca for NYC surfers. In the summer this beach is so popular that it is hard to find parking. The beach is wide and clean. Lots of space. NYC ferry can get one here from anywhere in NYC. Many good food spots now especially in the Arverne By The Sea section of Rockaways. A great boardwalk that is 5.5 miles long. It is made with cement and it is very smooth for biking. Overall, Rockaways has gotten so much better and it continues to grow and gain popularity every year! Come and experience it all for yourself.

One of NYC's beautiful beaches! I'm sure it's a lot busier in the summer, but even during the winter months it was nice to walk along the boardwalk. I think surf lessons may be available during the warmer months as well.

I spent a couple months this spring living in Far Rockaway with family overlooking the beach. I took the A train into the city to work, and the best part of my day was returning and walking home along the marvelous boardwalk. I bought a bike at a great place-Rockaway Beach Cycles in Rockaway and loved riding it the whole 5.5 miles of the boardwalk. Loved walking, swimming, sunbathing, people watching. If I could, I would move there in a heartbeat - it has everything. Best pizza is Boardwalk Pizza in Arverne. Great Catholic Parish - St. Rose of Lima. I love the area and miss it!!
