The canal is a great recreational resource. Walking, jogging or biking on the flat path is a wonderful way to get exercise. Kayaking, canoeing and paddle boarding on the canal thru Fairport is relaxing as well. There are a number of parks right off the...More

We crossed the canal multiple times while visiting Rochester and the Finger Lakes Region. Some sections of the canal have walking paths along it so you can enjoy the historic canal.

I love living within walking distance of the historic Erie Canal in the village of Fairport. The path along the canal is great for walking or cycling. The path is paved and well lit at night. Enjoyable to walk the path anytime of year. An...More

There is a lot of history to the Erie Canal, but not much of it is readily apparent if you are walking the path. My recommendation for those coming to the canal from out of the area would be to take one of the boat...More

The Erie Canal IS America's History! Seeing it in Pittsford, NY, @ Schoen Place, is a wonderful treat. 'Tis also a way to have a nice walk, walk a dog, have an ice cream on the fly. It's clean, tidy, good doggie poo stations along...More

Downtown Fairport makes a great place to strt exploring the Erie Canal. Walkers and bike-riders can enjoy the paved canal-side pathway. "River-boat" cruises are available (Colonial Belle) and you can rent watercraft in town (canoes, kayaks, pontoon boats, etc.

My husband and I rented a canal boat for a week. We traveled from Macedon to Seneca Falls and back on the Erie Canal. What a great historical trip. The Erie Canal is scenic. There are little towns to stop and explore along the way.

Fairport is right on the Erie Canal and there is direct access off of the main street. The lift bridge at this location is one of a kind and worth hanging around to watch it go up and down. There are many activities to enjoy...More

The Erie Canal is a piece of Americana history running through the village of Fairport. It is valued and kept clean so you can play in it today. Bring your own watercraft or rent a kayak or take a short cruise!

Yes, there are lodging choices nearby. Closest is Hampton Inn Rochester-Penfield. Nicest [my opinion], still pretty close & reasonably priced, is Woodcliff Hotel & Spa in Fairport. Enjoy!!
