I'm biased, I know, but this was my childhood backyard. Growing up in the neighborhood, we always rode our bikes into the park, drove in as a family, and even learned to drive there -- it had everything we needed to learn how to drive without too much traffic to be intimidated by. "Let's go to Heckscher for coffee" was... More

There are good and bad reviews for this park. I think part of that is because some people have the wrong expectations for this place. Let me help you. If you want a nice beach to swim or take your kids for a family day at the beach you will most likely not like this park. If you want to... More

This park is great for riding bikes. It is very clean and the grounds are well kept. I have never had any issues here parking.

A very nice State park. Boating docks, relaxing view of Great South Bay. The pool is no longer open to the public.

In summer, Heckscher State Park can become somewhat crowded. The bay beaches and picnic areas quickly fill with extended family gatherings, The boat launch ramp parking area is lined with boat trailers and SUV's while their owners go out for a leisurely sail on the Great South Bay or fun fishing excursion. Bike trails and walking paths crisscross and connect... More

Great place to sit on the beach and tan, or have a picnic with friends and family. I often ride my bike on the fitness trail along the water, its beautiful!

Heckscher State Park -- formerly an estate of William Nicoll, founder of the Town of Islip -- consists of 1,600 acres and has many amenities, including hiking trails, picnic areas, playground, boat launches, fishing (with permit) and a beach (it borders the Great South Bay). There is something here for most nature enthusiasts, and people who want to have fun... More

When I take my bicycle out to Hecker State Park in the morning, it is so peaceful. I love to see the deer, listen to the birds singing, smell the salt water while I am training on my bike. Thank God we have this beautiful state park .
