After visiting the Corning Museum of Glass I learned more about this tower. The little boys that used to have to blow the hot glass for the adults as they passed it off to them. This tower represents the history of glass and the industrial revolution that took place in the area. I enjoyed my visit here.

The LIttle Joe Tower in the Gaffer District in Corning stands today as a monument to Corning's technological innovation. Built in 1912, the tower represented a great step forward in thermometer tubing production technology. Today, no longer in use, the tower was recently beautifully restored and is now a historical landmark. The image at the top is of a gaffer, or glass blower and it is representative of the unique aspect of the city of Corning. Near the base of the tower is a bronze sculpture of a gaffer and his equipment. Don't miss the tower and sculpture when visiting Corning.

Not much to add to the review by "schmutaki". Its all true. This is a truly historic landmark which is only appreciated by a fraction of the people who see it (including the local residents!), and probably think it's a smokestack. Here's a little more history: It was almost torn down back in the 90's when the new HQ was being built. It's so old they didn't know whether it would be sturdy enough to stand alone when they tore down the surrounding factory. Thankfully the original blueprints were found at Cornell which confirmed that it was OK to stand-alone and and the structure was saved. Lots more info online.

Interesting history behind this tower and the sculpture at the base is certainly worth seeing. I would recommend.

We learned about the tower as part of a walking tour of Corning. The tower's role is an important part of US industrial and glass history and one that should be noted. The brass sculpture at the base also reminds everyone of the work involved in glass blowing.

Definitely the coolest thing to visit in Corning! If you're in town, this is a must see. Stop and walk up to it and look straight up! Really cool!

In vacation in the Corning area went to see Little Joe thought it was the guy sitting on the bench blowing the glass then we found out Little Joe is actually the tower next to it where the innovation of stretching glass was made I guess not many people could appreciate that but we found it fascinating.

The tower is inside a secured parking lot so we drove by to view it. Only took us a couple of minutes.

We didn't spend a lot of time at this landmark; part of a walking tour. But it is a major part of industrial history.

I have visited Corning numerous times but somehow mixed this area. You do have to hunt for a few minutes for it but it is an amazing statue and a fantastic tower located in same area. Worth your stop.
