This offered a nice option to the Baseball Hall of Fame in town. It’s just a short drive from Main Street and reasonably priced for admission (you can couple admission with its sister museum across the street if you want).

The space is in a beautiful building that is as lovely as the artwork. The building offers a cafe if you need a quick bite to eat or drink. There is a little gift-shop as well.

Take the time to go out back of the building as there is a walking path that takes you down to the lake and presents great opportunities for pictures.

My husband and I came here to take a break from baseball, and we were pleasantly surprised at the variety of nice artwork here. It isn't a big museum, but the building is also pretty, and you can walk around outside and enjoy the grounds as well.

A nice place to spend time if you need a break from baseball, but it's not really an art museum, so much as a salon. Really only 3 small galleries of American art, and the ground level devoted to Native American crafts, which was actually much more impressive and better curated than the main floor.
The 2 rotating exhibits held zero interest to me, so maybe if those had been different I would have enjoyed it more. But as it was, pretty underwhelming on this visit.

Nice Art Museum.

You will get a break from baseball, which I allowed the wifey to do.

Military discount gets you in for free.

Keith Haring exhibit was pretty cool, since I have Kutztown and NYC connections. I remember his "street art" in NYC during the 1980's.

Outdoor grounds are very picturesque.

Plenty of free parking. Either drive there or take the trolley.

Don't miss the Fenimore Art Museum when you visit Cooperstown. We saw the Ansel Adams display of the Japanese internment during WW II while we were there. A classy art gallery! Be sure to walk around the grounds when you visit.

The Keith Haring exhibit was A+. Very well curated. Loved it and it was the main reason for our trip. Also the Ansel Adams exhibit of his photographs from the Manzanar Japanese internment camp. Loved the cafe, had lunch there, and Keith Haring story walk too.

The three special exhibits were the highlight of the Fenimore Museum. In the basement was a great expansive exhibit of Keith Haring’s modern artwork. Think outlines of barking dogs and radiant babies and you will remember Haring. On the top floor was an exhibit of Ansel Adams from his WWII photography shoot at the CA Japanese internment camp. The third exhibit was a series of letters between Alexander Hamilton and Aaron Burr that led to the duel in which Burr killed Hamilton.

Visited the Museum on a trip to Cooperstown. Highly impressed. The Ansel Adams exhibit was both touching and thoughtful. The Keith Haring exhibit contained many of the pop artist's works along with inciteful information on their origins. Very clean and masks were required.

My wife and I decided to visit this museum primarily because they were hosting a special exhibit of art by Keith Haring. The exhibit did not disappoint; well presented and lots of his paintings, a film to watch etc. The rest of the museum was very nice also and focused on local history like James Fenimore Cooper. They had a great collection of Native American artifacts, American painters (Hudson Valley school) and more. Museum was easy to find and parking was free and easy. I recommend a visit.

The place is located in a former neo-Georgian mansion the family owned.

It specializes in American Indian art, American fine and folk art, rare books, and 19th and 20th-century photography. The museum is laid out well and takes about 90 minutes to stroll through it.
