So I have read many of the reviews of this year's orchid show and to be honest, I am not sure if this was their first visit to this show? I have been to many over the years and became a member on the back of one of their most magnificent displays. However, this year was a total disappointment. My friend and I spent just 37 minutes there. The flowers themselves are stunning but it was missing the large displays of flowers. The cascading archways of previous years. The flowers interspersed with other plants and flowers all too sparse and apart from the opening display and the one covered arch the highlight of our trip was the illuminated tunnel. Now that really was fantastic! Take a picture and see! We came away totally disillusioned for what had become a great spectacle to see. If you have never seen it before then you have nothing to compare it with but as a member, it didn't cost me anything but if I had to pay $23.00 entrance fee and $20.00 to park I would certainly have thought I didn't get my monies worth!

Drove in from NJ to see NYBG Glow with friends. Bought 6 tickets at $30 AND paid $20 parking for two cars- only to be disappointed. Thought it would be fun to see some great creative light displays with the music we read about, but there wasn’t much to see. we walked the garden loop lit by fun snowflake balls with two side garden walks through a lit ball garden with a steel drum duo and the other a giant gazebo. Only to then walk a partially lit path to the ice sculpture - nice but not too exciting -and then came upon one single hip hop dancer performing to the dance of the sugar plum fairies. Then we were at the front gate again. Nothing truly unique or inspiring throughout the walk, and certainly NOT worth the admission fee or parking. Wasn’t expecting crazy light displays like you see in some neighborhoods, but something with pizazz or interesting light effects were expected, not just lit paths and colored up lights on buildings. In total, with a bathroom stop, we were there 35 minutes. Didn’t see a point in standing in the cold line for over priced hot chocolate at the end. 😔

Orchid show is fantastic. If you’re a flower enthusiast or an artist or just love the smell of flowers there is something there for you. The exhibit well controlled so you have time & space to enjoy. The kaleidoscope exhibit at entrance can not be captured in a photo. As always the gardens are great all times of year. Great family teen couple or single event.

Attended the holiday train show in early Dec. Exhibit was fun and informative Very crowded on a Saturday and if I went again would go during the week if possible. . Also took a tram ride through the grounds and decided a spring visit would be nice in warmer weather. Beautiful indoor gardens you can tour even in the winter. Several places to eat right on the grounds. We ate at the food court type area and had a very good sandwich.

How fun it was to go see NYBG Glow, open until January 9. Last night there was a steel drum band playng Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer, an ice carver, a big outdoor fire pit and lots of gorgeous lights and colors. If you're a member, you also can tour the famous train show in an almost empty Conservatory. This is a festive and cheerful way to celebrate the holiday and so joyful.

Autumnal scenes throughout the grounds. This not the best time to visit the outdoor areas of the park but the woodland does look beautiful in the sunset light. We went into the conservatory and explored the train exhibit which was just the coolest thing. Very detailed plant based models of new York sights. And the temperature controlled areas were stunning regardless, the palm house a personal favourite. The gift shop is chock full of surprises and the coffee shop café was really good despite the high prices. Nice!

I don’t think I’ve ever seen such beautiful flowers in my entire life. We went to the Jeff Leatham Orchid show. It was mind blowing .... so many different styles and colors and designs. There are tunnels and jungles and all kinds of unique rooms. Try to get there early because the line for parking grows throughout the AM.

The New York Botanical Garden is a stunning respite in the midst of a chaotic city. The membership is well worth it as you can not only go there any day, but it's tax deductible. The well-kept grounds are beautiful and accessible for a short walk, a day of exploring, or a hike on the trails. As a member, you can sit and read a book in a quiet corner outdoors on a beautiful day, or enjoy the garden's offerings of seasonal flowers. I encourage every local, from the boroughs or beyond, to join the NYBG for their own peace and joy!

Was excited after Covid to get back to the NYBG to see the orchid show but I have to be honest, it was a huge disappointment. It was a very small exhibit and a sparse amount of orchids. I’ve been before and usually it’s an explosion of beautiful orchids displayed in creative and interesting ways. But not this year. In addition, they really should reconsider their pricing. We paid $30 for our tickets and $20 to park the car (not to mention tolls to get there). It makes it financially difficult for families with children as well as those on a fixed income to be able to afford to visit. They offer a meager discount of $2 for students and seniors. It’s shameful actually.

Orchid show this year is not worth seeing. I have attended each year for the last 10 years, and this year was very disappointing in comparison. By far, the majority of the orchids displayed are the most common type, typically sold in HomeDepot/supermarkets.
I never heard of the "designer" Lily Kwong. I assume she is a nice person and all, but the show was so poor, I wanted to understand more about the so-called designer. The NY Times and Forbes fawn all over her orchid work, despite the fact both publications make it glaringly obvious she has little, if any orchid knowledge or horticultural education. In fact, it appears her main recommendation is her adherence to Woke dogma concepts like "sustaninability", being simpatico with "imigrants", and the usual self-absorption with identity. This quote from the Forbes review pretty much tells you all you need to know: "[Kwong]...is the first woman and the first person of color invited to be a guest designer for The Orchid Show. "
Frankly, I don't quite understand what being a woman, or "person of color" has to do with being credible as an orchid show designer.
Go if you must, or take in the orchids at Home Depot and save your money
