Kids loved it!

I have 3 boys and they loved this. They thought it was super cool to dig for fossils. You can bring your own tools or rent ones.

I've been to Penn-Dixie several times, and can't wait to go back! The 57-acre site is about 40 minutes south of Buffalo, in Hamburg, NY, and is a fantastic place to find all sorts of Devonian-era fossils - great for fossil enthusiasts, families, and kids of all ages! Depending on your level of interest, plan to spend at least several... More

If you like to get your hands dirty, pack a picnic lunch, snacks, and refreshments and take the family to this open space quarry situated south of Buffalo along the coast of Lake Erie. Parking is free. There are port-a-potties just inside the entrance. You can purchase a ticket for a day or become a member and receive daily access.... More

What fun! My husband & I are in our 50's & love doing this! Love they have a porta potty so no worries. Bring your sunscreen. If you don't have 'gear' which is basic, you can rent it here.

Took my Great Grand kids--ages 6 and 7-- to this site to search for authentic fossils in what was a pre-historic ocean bottom, millions of years ago. Everyone had a good time and we found many fossils, which we were allowed to take home with us. We spent over 2 hours there, but many professional fossil hunters were there longer.... More

I purchased a Groupon for the Penn Dixie and we decided to use it this past Sunday. When we arrived, I really wasnt sure that it was going to be worth it, certainly didn't look like much, BUT WOW... Our "guide" who showed us what to do was nice, knowledgeable and spent time going over hammer to rock techniques... We... More

at first look, doesn't look like much. But, as soon as you look down, its a treasure trove discovered! Even the littlest ones will have success finding REAL fossils that are millions and millions of years old, how cool is that?

My daughter and I went for Scout Days. The staff was friendly and very knowledgeable. The bottle rocket making & launching was great. We enjoyed seeing the sun spots through the telescope they had their. We also had fun searching for fossils. The staff was available to answer any questions and help finding the fossils.

My son was invited for a birthday party last year and really enjoyed it. We were finally able to make it back as a family outing. All the boys loved it from 18 months to 7 years of age. The adults did too. Although you can rent a bucket and tools, definitely bring your own. You may want more than... More

I'm a geocacher (for more info, see geocaching.com) and particularly an Earthcache fan. Since there was an Earthcache here, I had to come check it out. I would never have found out about it without geocaching. Really interesting place, great volunteers to help out and tell us so much! It was pretty warm and we were short on time so... More
