Doodletown was an colonial town that lasted until the 1960's before the State Park Commission started to buy over land and pushed the residents out. A little difficult to find if you don;t know the area but driving on 9W south from Bear Mt and just last the entrance to the Iona Bird Sanctuary you will see many cars pulled... More

Beautiful park where you can hike, walk, fish, ride your bike or motorbike, row your boat or just take amazing pictures. Lots of deers and all green in summer. In winter take care of the ice in the road. Beautiful mountains with snow and the famous 7 Lakes. A must go place to get fresh air and be in contact... More

Really nice easy hike to a beautiful lake in Harriman State park. We took a trail from a parking lot across from Lake Sebago which passed along a couple of streams.

Few people know that within one hour of NYC there are abandoned mines that have returned to nature. They range from adits to cliff faces, exploratory pits to trenches. A few are large enough you can drive a Sherman tank into and even kick a field goal in. No worries there aren't any zombies nor vampires living in them.. not... More

I can't say enough about this place. At nearly 50,000 acres there is truly something for everyone. From public swimming ares to hundreds of miles of hiking trails including the Appalachian Trail and the Long Trail. It's hard to explain so just go already.

Real backcountry, an hour from Manhattan. Buy a map (NY NJ Trail Conference #118 &119) or download one from the Playstore (Avenza maps- if cell service is available your location is GPS'd to the map), and learn how to read it. Topographical lines close together- incline or decline, very close together-steep, and lines far apart- flat terrain.Trails are marked by... More

Most visitors to Harriman State Park go to the Bear Mountain Inn area, which has the lovely (but no swimming allowed) Hessian Lake, a small-but-excellent zoo, a skating rink, a carousel, boat rentals, picnic areas, and a large field for playing Frisbee or chasing your dog around. Others take the road to the top of Bear Mountain and see the... More

Took a Motorcycle ride through Seven Lakes Dr. to Bear Mtn. What a beautiful time of year, and an a great place to see. The lakes, even on a windy day were quite the view to take in.

I could not find another listing to post this review - It is not related to Bear Mountain but to Harriman State Park. Hiking Lemon Squeezer trail to Lichen Trail was spectacular - great views, landscape, versatile day long hike, approximately 8 miles. Lemon Squeezer was fun diversion (not main attraction). Easy to loose trail marks - so be careful... More
