The Khwai River borders the Moremi Game Reserve in the North-East. Although the Moremi Campsite is on the river itself, it is rather costly for foreign visitors to camp there. On the northerly side of the bridge is Khwai Village, which has a community camp....More

We saw a large herd of elephant crossing whilst we stopped on this rather rickety wooden bridge, all part of the experience in this area of the delta.

the bridge and surroundings are worth the drive, from there you can go further into Moremi , Kwai village has not much to offer and little to do for tourists.

The bridge was interesting, quite new as the old collapsed bridge has been replaced. It offered a nice view of the sunset and was guarded by a large troupe of baboons.

The bridge is made of telephone poles running across the river. One day on our return to camp, baboons were dragging a dead baby around and would not let us cross for about ten minutes. A learning experience about baboon behavior.

As part of my trip to Moremi, Khwai River Bridge was part of it and between the 2, split by the river I saw the best of all sightings I had in Botswana. Lots of Leopards, Lions, wild dogs etc etc.

Better stay at Sable Camp, ex Banoka Camp 30 mins away than in the village. Its all inclusive with professional guides and a wonderful kitchen. There are backpacker options, but it all depends the experience you want.
