Formed in 1923 by Lucy Harwood and several members of the Taos Society of Artists, the Harwood Museum of Art is the second oldest museum in New Mexico. The museum has been affiliated with the University of New Mexico since 1935, and it now boasts the internationally acclaimed Agnes Martin Gallery, galleries exhibiting highlights from the museum's collection of work by the Taos Society of Artists, Taos Moderns, Hispanic Traditions, and contemporary artists working in Taos, and changing exhibitions fulfilling the Harwood's vision to "Bring Taos Arts to the World and World Arts to Taos."

This is just one couple's opinion, bu we were very disappointed in what the Harwood had to offer, art-wise, this past Sunday. For us, there was an over-abundance of Modern art displays and not nearly enough of everything else. If you're looking for wonderful New...More

I have visited the Harwood several times in the last couple of years. They have some of the best examples of New Mexico art anywhere. You will find historic as well as modern pieces and see how art in the area has changed over the...More

During our recent early Nov visit, the Harwood displayed more than 20 Taos Society of Artists paintings. This represents a large increase over the ten or so such paintings on display during a visit three years ago. Much appreciated. Other comments: ▪️The museum is a...More

Taos has so many museums and galleries, but this one shouldn't be missed. Larger than it looks from the outside, the Harwood can be enjoyed in an hour or for the whole day!

I have visited Taos half a dozen times. This museum can do better. How can this be the second oldest NM museum and display such blah art? Maybe it is me but modern, blank art and dull photography are not appealing nor worthy of the...More

Agnes Martin is one of my favorite artist. Have followed her for years - just saw a major retrospective in NY on her. The "chapel" here of her work, that she designed, is so deeply spiritual and moving. A "must see." It takes me out...More

Lovely moderately sized museum part of University of New Mexico. Just off the main drag. Easy parking. Interesting collections... most of which focus on local culture and Taos personalities. Very nice respite from the hustle bustle of downtown Taos.

The Harwood Museum is beautiful, but I admit the art we viewed was not the kind we particularly enjoy. There were some exceptional depictions, but others were lost on us. Because art appreciation is subjective, I suggest visitors to Taos experience this museum.
