Small but delightful museum

In the middle of Taos, this small museum brings to life Kit Carson and his life. Enjoyable way to spend and hour and learn some early NM history.

My son had never heard of Kit Carson. I knew he was a scout for the military, but had no idea of the adventuresome life he led. The video presented interesting information about his life and family and the museum offered exhibits of photos, daily living items and a look at the way he and his family lived.

A very friendly museum and how thankful we were they allowed well behaved dogs (our dog is small). There's a 25 minute video from the History Channel on Kit Carson's life (starring his grandson) which was was well worth watching. The house has been restored and the memorabilia, documents and photos provide a lot of information about Kit and his... More

Kit Carson is a well recognized historical figure in the exploration and settlement of the western United States. A fur trapper, mountain man, scout, and soldier. Carson's exploits covered many states and territories throughout his colorful career, but Taos was his home. The museum offers a glimpse into the life of this important historical figure. The museum is small and... More

This place holds a lot of history! There was a video about Kit Carson's life and 3 rooms that showed the artifacts of his life.

The museum is located in his Taos home and consists of 4 rooms. There are not too many actual artifacts but there are displays in each room. The best part is a film on his early life made by the History Channel specifically for the museum. At $7 for adults and $6 for seniors it is a bit pricey for... More

The Kit Carson Home and Musuem was a very nicely replicated home life of Kit Carson and his family. A video in the visitor center was well done and very informative. The gift shop was a bit pricey. The staff was quite friendly and knowlegeable.

We loved the history and presentation of the museum. It was fun to wander back in time with Kit Carson. I really hope they can continue to grow because this is a great spot for Taos and history geeks!

We stopped in here while in Taos and it was worthwhile. Not a huge museum, but it gives you some insight into his life and life there in the early 1800's. Imagining cooking for an entire family over the little kiva oven makes you really appreciate our modern way of life. The movie they show you has Kit Carson's great-grandson... More

Comprehensive history of the life of Kit Carson, his family and the events that shaped both the southwest and the US. From his childhood escapades, to early apprenticeship, life on the road as a trapper, life with the Native Americans, wars, marriage, children, tragedy and heroism, Carson'd was a life lived fully. This museum is worth a visit!
