We drove out to the Sandia Crest peak on a beautiful day, sunny and low 70s. After several cool windy days it looked like a perfect day to go. Drove out Central Ave which is historic RT 66. Really not a pleasant drive! Slow, lots of...More

This was a last minute decision during our stay in ABQ and we are so glad we made this drive! The ride up is very pretty, but when you arrive at the peak, the views are just stunning. At more than 11,000 feet above sea...More

I would make this a 5 however if you've got a heavy vehicle the drive is a monster so you better have a full tank of gas. And on the drive down really drive 10 miles an hour or you're sliding off the side of...More

This drive is nice & offers a great view from the top, overlooking Albuquerque. On the way back down, don't miss Tinkertown! You can continue along the Turquoise Trail all the way to Santa Fe (as an alternative route that is more scenic than the...More

The view is spectacular. I highly recommend it. Even driving up was an experience. We stopped a couple of times for short hikes, and enjoyed the final reward. It is very windy and cold up there so go prepared. There is a souvenir shop but...More

Restaurant is shut down for demolition to build a new one. Mountain roads are always weather dependent; check the weather reports. That being said, I've driven up there in January and February, but then I have a 4WD truck.
