Wonderful excursion trip. Could be a little treacherous.

We love visiting the lake and the peak. Loads of wildlife and scenic viewing opportunities. Take a picnic and spend the afternoon.

One of the most amazing views when you get to the lake. If you plan on going past the lake, then you need to have "real hiking gear and equipment." Otherwise just straight up to the lake is a fairly easy climb if you are in shape. Kid friendly.

Hiked Wheeler many times from different directions. Be sure to plan your trip and if you have the time, make a 2-3 trip of it. If you are short on time, head out of Red River, drive to one of the parking areas and hike up to some of the lakes, for shorter trip.

This hike up Wheeler is tough, once you get to the top it is breathtaking! There also a canister that you unscrew the cap and sign your name in the book to show you climbed Wheeler pike. Amazing hike but best to do inlate June or any of July

This is a great climb that is not overly difficult. Be sure to be prepared for weather changes and have water. You may feel the altitude difference as you climb.

We took the Williams lake trail to the Wheeler peak trail. The Williams lake trail #62 is a fairly easy 2 mile hike, but it is very rocky at spots. The Wheeler peak trail cuts off to the left just as you come into view of Williams trail. Wheeler peak trail meanders through some woods which gradually thin out as... More

I thought by hiking in late June, the trails would be free of snow and clear to the summit. Unfortunately that wasn't the case. I took the Bull of the Woods/Wheeler Peak trail. When I go up to the 11,500 foot level before reaching Frazer Mountain, I ran into many snow drifts which caused me to often lose the trail. After... A friend and I hiked with our wives and kids. 4 of them ages 3-14 to Williams Lake. We set up a tent for them and made our way to the peak. There was a tremendous amount of snow that we were not predicting. 20 plus snow drifts may of which sunk us waist deep in snow. We were on... More

Being able to hike and camp while going up Wheeler Peak was an extraordinary experience for my husband! ! Being up close and personal to the wilderness and animals living there was truly an adventure. So glad he finally took the time to accomplish another hike and proud to say he made it all the way up to Wheeler Peak!
