It's amazing to explain to family that even though we're going to drive from El Paso to this location, the last 45 miles will take almost 2 hours. The road from Silver City to the Cliff Dwellings is amazing, I'm hoping to do it again on my motorcycle. Yes, it's that twisty. Yes, the views are that good. The cliff... More

The most beautiful place we have every been to. Absolutely gorgeous. We vacationed here and there was no end to the things to do and sights to see. The only negative was our stay at Lake Roberts Motel.

The Gila Wilderness and Cliff Dwellings Natl Monument are an amazing joirney into nature and the past. The short hike across bridges which crisscross the river is punctuated by sightings of native flowers, lizards and multi colored butterflies flitting across your path. As you reach your destination, your breath is taken by glimpses of the archaeological wonder you are about... More

I must confess that my last trip here was 4 years ago before some of the big fires roared through the area, but I used to love backpacking here. I made about 6 trips through the wilderness, from a day hike to an eleven day trek, and I loved each trip!! I understand many of those trails have been burned... More

Want to see mesas, rugged cliffs, canyons, trees and high mountain desert? Visit the Gila. No crowds, wonderful remote location. The Gila's beauty will haunt your dreams.

The wilderness is good for fans of hiking, bird-watching, taking a bath in the Gila River at a secretive place or looking for some almost still original hot springs. I love that world's first designated in 1924 wilderness area with wolves, javelinas, coyotes, bears and many more animals.

We did a 4 day hike into the wilderness starting at the TJ Corral trailhead to the end of Little Bear Canyon for the first night. The distance was 4 miles. The weather was nice and the air cool since we started our hike late in the day. We chose to check out the Gila Cliff Dwellings before our hike... More

The beautiful mountain drive from Silver City to the Cliff Dwellings takes about 2 hours, but once you get there you will be on your feet hiking and exploring for the next couple of hours. Keep in mind that the trailhead is not at the Visitor Center, but you must stop there to pay your fee and get directions. Leaving... More

This is one of the last great unadulterated vast wilderness areas in the U.S. It is NOT commercialized like so many other so-called wilderness areas [like Sedona] that have private vendors and a police presence everywhere. The utter peace and tranquility you feel is otherworldly. I can honestly say that I haven't felt this level of deep peacefulness in many... More

The drive on Highway 152 from Hillsboro to Silver City was one of the most beautiful drives in North America. A wonderful drive through the mountains, with switchbacks and gorgeous views. This journey was a destination by itself with plenty of hiking trails. My wife and I had rented convertibles to take this drive, it was by far worth the... More
