We've lived in New Mexico for almost seven years and this was our first time checking out Elephant Butte! What a pleasant surprise! The temperature for this time of year is higher than usual and there are not many options for shade. There are two parts to the park, on one side is the beach/boating/camping areas and the side where... More

Elephant Butte SP is another of the NM bargains: $14/night for elec & water, before any discounts.... Even cheaper is the primitive camping, which is spectacular, with miles and miles of beach to choose from. Fishing is excellent, scenery awesome, people are nice (even the Game Wardens----HAVE A LICENSE! (Available online and, of course nowadays, you have coverage)

About 3 hours out of the cold/snow and uniquely positioned to draw warmer temps in winter...this is a perfectly nice spot to hang out for a bit and warm up! There are some nice restaurants nearby, springs and the lake is peaceful. Grounds are well kept and bathrooms clean. All state parks are very reasonably priced and well worth a... More

Elephant Butte is designed for hundreds of campers, but in the winter it's almost abandoned while the facilities are excellent: warm showers, clean bathrooms, and well maintained campsites. The campsites are water and electricity only, but there is a dump station near each of the major campsites.

Stayed here for a week in our RV. Pull through sites made for easy in & out. Sites were a bit narrow & no sewer hook ups. Sites are also not very level. Restrooms were clean but worn looking. Great price, though, only $14 a night.

Was first time for hubby coming to Elephant Butte - I have been here before - it was a beautiful day here - no clouds and blue sky all around - watching people in their boats - couple of water jets going too - notice shape of Elephant mountain has change with wind, rain over the years but still a... Spent the weekend at the lake. First trip to the lake and what a nice trip. There were a lot of campers along the shore line of the lake. Weather was fantastic and the portable bathrooms were well maintained. Word of caution when driving along the shore line there are several spots where a vehicle can stink into the sand... More

We have always enjoyed so much living here it's such a small town, but great big beautiful Lake. The climate is perfect even in the Winter it's awesome. We can even take our boat out in the fall and the winter, maybe not in bathing suit but as long as you dress appropriately for mild weather it's great. The lake... More
