We've visited the sanctuary several times over the years and it remains a deeply moving experience. Entering weathered wooden doors, you pass into an intimate little church, with colorful altar and thick adobe walls that appear to lean inward. To the left of the altar, beneath a low doorway is the sanctuary. A rack of crutches hangs on one wall... More

Quiet, profound, authentic, soulful. Walk from either the town or the parking lot and take in the mountains, land, sky, and this simple compound of Adobe. When you enter, think of the thousands of people who worshipped here over hundreds of years, and who found healing. I am a doctor who struggled badly with arthritis before coming here and discovered real... More

This is the second time I have been to the chapel and I love coming here. The peacefulness of the surroundings and the history of the place seep into you and make the noise of the modern world disappear.

We decided to stop in Chimayo while driving on the High Road. The church is very beautiful. There are 5 panels of sacred paintings in the church. The church was built in 1814-1816 and remains in prestine condition. The chapel is also something you need to visit. There are hundrends of baby shoes and pictures on the walls and also... More

We asked for directions to this church while we were shopping in Ortega's weaving shop. It was on the same road, but they told us you have to be careful or you will miss it. You actually drive past it a bit to get to the parking lot at the bottom. The outdoor area is absolutely awe inspiring. The scenery,... More

You absolutely have to see this old old chapel! And what a great and informative complex around it. And be sure that you drive the High Road to see it. Very spiritual time spent here.

As you pull into the parking area you see the crosses carried by believers and then walk along the path beside a fence COVERED with rosaries, flowers and crosses. The quiet chapel is cool and invites you to linger and pray. The ajoining room has walls covered with photos and racks of hanging discarded crutches and canes. An amazing place... More

The care and attention to the church and surrounding are impressive. And on a beautiful fall day, with Cottonwoods changing color, it is a photographer's dream. The church is beautiful, but simple. A place that reflects the strong beliefs held in this small community in Northern New Mexico.

I hadn't planned to visit but at the last moment decided to take the High Road back to Santa Fe. I saw the signs and thought why not stop since I'm in yhe neighborhood. I spent a wonderful hour in prayer and thanksgiving for the opportunity to travel. I was refreshed.

I didn't know what to expect but I was overwhelmed with emotions being there. The church and grounds are beautiful. I was very touched to see all the photos and prayer requests. It was a wonderfully spiritual experience.
