This is a essentially a park where locals even come and camp with family. This is a park that has 29 varieties of the native rhododendrons. The most prominent red one is seen in many places in the park. There are some interesting flora in the park; if you have a trip guide he/she will be able to explain well. Family with kids will enjoy. SO will photography enthusiasts. Others can just relax or avoid this altogether.

On your way to Punakha, you can make a short stopover at this Garden to stretch your legs. It is a very good picnic spot with nice views and has play area for kids.

This botanical garden is a few kilometres below the Dochula Pass, and about half an hour drive from Punakha/Wangdue. It is 47 square miles and has over 46 species of rhododendrons. The gardens have numerous view points and trails. There is a small lake in the gardens. There is also a canteen.

A definite break on your way back from Punakha to Thimpu/Paro. Its a botanical park spread over a huge area with a small pond with row boat facility. As per information at the gate there have been bear sightings too up in the hills over the park, by way of night camera images. Worth spending an hour at this park for complete relaxtion. At NG 100 per head is worth every penny spent

Just a short day trip from Thimphu, combine with a view of the Eastern Himalaya at Dochula before descending the pass to the entrance gates. Good interpretive visitors centre, helpful and knowledgeable Park Rangers and the starting point for many walking tours from a few hours to an all-day trek back to Thimphu through forests of Blue Pine, Oak and monstrous rhododendrens, best viewed in spring until late April.

Near to dochula pass, not worthyto go there, wastage of time and money, not at all managed. Lot of weeds and high grown grass, very few flowers, one dirty pond is there where horses and cow come to drink water. There’s one educative cd played on tv for tourists about the park . Very good information at informative centre.

We are wildlife photographers with special interest in birds. We visited Lamperi Park also known as Royal Botanical Gardens this week. It's a beautiful place with some great bird life in and around the park. We reached there rather late around 3 pm and the park closes at 4 so couldn't explore it throughly but in that one hour or so we spotted around 15 species of birds. Non birders would also enjoy the serenity and flora and fauna of this park. A must visit for any nature lover visiting Bhutan.

Many tourist avoid this. but we chose to visit. This like a jungle park but poorly maintained, no animals except one barking deer. nothing to see here, hence I think you can avoid visiting this.

After driving the switchbacks up to Dochu La, a stop at the Royal Botanical Park for a walk or picnic is a lovely break. Of course, spring and summer are the best for flowers, but even fall has its charms and colors. For those who want a sense of Himalayan plant life, this is a good place to visit. In spring one can see the rhododendron festival and sometimes there are other small festivals. A visitor's center has an exhibit and an informational movie. When weather is good, often people stop for a picnic lunch in the park and those that wish can take plastic boats out on the tiny pond.
