Steep climb in the streets and stunning views of Berat, the river and the mountains. Remember cash for the entrance.

I totally enjoyed strolling through this castle. It was a sunny day, and the white stone walls were absolutely dazzling! The castle contains the excellent Iconography museum which is absolutely worth a visit.

It’s a steady climb to reach the top but this fortress is lovely to wander around for an hour or so. The museum is interesting and worth a visit if you have the time. It’s incredible that people still live in this citadel today!

We enjoyed the large fortress - remains of an old fort area with two mosques and about ten churches. Great views of the surrounding region.
