Take a guide only if you want to take the steps from the top of the crater on the way back or go through the jungle. The climb is easy and obvious if you return the same way. Be aware of the change in weather...More

If you find yourself in Berastagi, this is probably the reason you're here. The town itself is not all that, but the fairly easy trek to the top is definitely worthwhile, especially considering there won't be much else to do here! The views of the...More

Sibayak has a sister named Sinabung. Whenever Sinabung gets angry she spews ashes miles into the air. Berastagi town will be covered in ash.

Bit underwhelming once reaching the top. Not an essential part of your travels, is easily missable, as is Berastagi.

Sibayak is full of surprises. The path is very easy to follow and less adventurous than most but the summit/crater area is Mars-like and the spew of sulfur is deafening. There are also puppies! Oddly roaming around the wasteland. If you're feeling daring you can...More

For an experienced hiker, this would be a very easy hike. My driver did not drop me off at the actual starting point, so I had to walk the 3km or so on a semi-paved road to get to the start. It was fine, but...More

We've had terrible weather, very windy and a lot of rain. Therefore no special views, but we are sure it is beautiful with clear weather!

I suggest you to take a tour guide, maybe someone you know around Medan. I don't recommend you to come in December because it's rainy season. If you wan't to visit here, maybe we could help you if we have sparetimes. Free of... More
