    2D2N itinerary
Did a solo trip 3D2N (last day was just heading to airport), so effectively 2D2N. Touched down from airport - to Berestagi and Lake Toba for day 1. Engaged a local guide (see his IG harlysembiring), and spent 1 night at his place! Harly is very accommodating and tailored the itinerary based on my short time there! Day 2 was mount sibayak, got spring and a secret river trek! Totally amazed by the natural wonders. Overall a good trip but i ran out of cash at the end (some of the meals i paid for harly and myself)

    Great experience with Mr Geleng!
We started the hike at 4am. Mr Geleng prepared torches for us (with extras / spare). His pace is slow and good, the hike is very beginner friendly. The local dogs love him too and followed us to the peak. Mr Geleng is very knowledgeable and passionate about volcanoes; have learned new facts from him. Grateful for this experience!

Morningcoffee with Johannes at the Sibayak.. and in the hot springs!
We had an amazing sunrisetrip with Johannes this morning! He picked us up at 4'o clock at the hotel (Kalang Ulu, also a superplace to stay with their carefully designed rooms and rooftopbar/restaurant !) He guided us very carefully to the top , through the mangroves and later the stoney path. Very patient (and with extra torches and rainshields.. ) and with a lovely smile! We reached the top in time and he surprised us with a freshbrewed coffee to enjoy the beautiful sights even more!☕️🌋. We later walked through the krater to feel the warm stones, see the hot water bubbling and came close to the sulphur spots. The trip back was relaxed and he told us more about the ancient Karo- stories of the mountain spirits .. and much more. Then he took us to the place down at Sibayak where they have the hot springs turned into small village-spa's. What a joy to be in the hot and healthy water, after this wonderful 'work-out'! Thank you Johannes, for showing us all this , you are a superguide!

Mount Sibayak hike - lovely jubbly
Great hike up to volcano. Our guide Geleng was great. Very informative about flora, fauna, geology and English slang. Hike to caldera took about 2 hours but only because of frequent stops to examine views, plant-life etc. We climbed to the highest point on Mount Sibayak which was steep and exhirilating - if not confident scrambling or have any vertigo issues you may want to be careful on this. Several of our group stayed at caldera or climbed to ridge at back for further views but decided not to scramble up final 100 feet or so. WhatsApp number for Geleng who I’d recommend is 085297700529

Very Nice trip to Sibayak Vulcano. And very special guide.
We made a tour to the top of the Sibayak Vulcano. Tourguide Geleng told us everything about the Sibayak Vulcano. He knows a lot about vulcanos. He has studied Geology and called himself the “vulcano professor ”. His life is Vulcano’s 4 dogs were walking with us. They were not his dogs but he regarded them as his kids. Our kids loved the dogs. Very Nice trip with a very nice and special guide.

Nice en educational experience climbing Mount Sibayak
We had a wonderfull hike at Mount Sibayak. We started at 6.30 am to walk by daylight. The climb of nearly 400 altimeters is not difficult. During the climb our great guide mr. Geleng told us a lot about the plants and of course especially the vulcano. Amazing how much he knows about the history, the different types of stone and the sulpher geisers. On the way up and back he took care of four lovely dogs who accompenied us. In every way he had great respect and love for the nature.

Mount Sibayak Hike with Johannes and Riki
Its was our first time visiting Medan, Indonesia & exhilarating experience! The level of hospitality & kindness from the locals are unmatched! Thank you Johannes & riki for showing us the rich culture and the country have to offer! Special shout out to our guide, Riki for going the extra mile to help get us their local delight Bika Ambon & lapis legit! Both pastry tasted moist, light n fluffy. Definitely a must buy when touring in Indonesia! Might be back to see what Medan have to offer!

I hiked the mountain/ volcano in the morning before sunset. It is a really nice walk. Unfortunately it was cloudy this morning. But our guide made the trip a lot better I had Harly as my guide. He made the experience even better. He is funny, and he understands European irony very well. He is caring and pays attention to your needs.
He has my warmest recommendation.

Climbed Mt Sibayak with our local guide Riki.
even though we woke up late, he has been very kind to accomodate us and we are very fortunate to reach the Volcano summit at sunrise, mesmerising the clear view with almost perfect weather. Riki also prepare us coffee to enjoy on the summit, it is a blissful moment for us.

Initially, we only asked Riki / Johanes for Mt Sibayak guide, but they also available to cover our trip in Brastagi and Lake Toba as well as the famed Sipiso Sipo waterfall.

Riki and Johanes are very knowledgable around the region and they command good English and we feel very safe besides them. I lost my passport during the trip and he really helped me during that difficult time to retrieve it back to me.

Highly recommended this brothers if you planning to visit Sumatra.
there are their contacts.

We went to mount Sibayak with our tour guide Harly! We absolutely recommend to do the tour with Harly! He knows a lot about the area and also speaks really good English.

Harly was also our private driver and tour guide for the whole trip in North-Sumatra. He did really hard his best to show us the local culture and always had a lot of knowledge. He also always adjusted the travel itinerary to our wishes, was very helpful, and showed us the best places. Besides that, Harly was fun to hang out with! We also stayed at his homestay for 3 days, where we met his kind family. They were very guestfree and cooked for us! It was also not very expensive, so this is also possible for people who are on a budget vacation.

We had a great time with Harly and definitely recommend him as a tour guide for activities in North-Sumatra, but also as a private driver for the vacation! We will definitely come back to Sumatra again

We went for a hike with Geleng (his WhatsApp number is +62 852-9770-0529), a local guide. He organised everything perfectly.
Pick up in Medan, drive to volcano, hiking to the caldera, he made us a snack there, then drive us to another hotel at Lake Toba. Fantastic service, and a very interesting experience.
We even stopped by a strawberry farm to pick up some fresh berries and had dinner with them at a local eatery.
This place is worth visiting for sure, it made our experience of Indonesia much more diverse and interesting.

Absolutely recommend a trek up Mount Sibayak - on a clear day fantastic views of Mount Sinabung, (which unfortunately you can't trek up), varying interesting vegetation on the trek up, a few steam vents on the way up to the caldera, (strong sulphur smells ). Despite the heavy mist the caldera was so interestingly eerie (we were the only ones up there). Boiled eggs for breakfast - cooked in one of the boiling water pools care of Mr Geleng, our local guide.
We highly recommend Mr Geleng. So knowledgeable on the ring of fire volcanoes & on local flora - so interesting to listen to. Takes his time to ensure you safely reach the caldera & that you have sufficient time to take the many photos you cannot resist taking - captivating scenery. He has a friendly dog who joins a little way up the trek who stays for the duration and joined at the crater with 2 more.
Mr Geleng absolutely deserves all the positive reviews already published.

A great trek it is about 1.5 hours to the top from the car parking. Terrain was manageable and not slippery. Geleng was a fantastic trekking guide for Mt Sibayak, he is knowledgable, supportive and provided an excellent experience and even brought eggs, bananas and biscuits to share on the hike. His number is + 62 852 977 00529. Good views from the top and a very unique landscape.

We have made a wonderful volcano hike with the symphatetic and knowledgeable tour guide Geleng. He has studied vulcanoes for years and taught us many interesting things about these mighty mountains. How do you, for example, predict an eruption? And how do you survive when you get lost in the jungle on their steep slopes? On top of Sibayak Geleng had a tasty surprise for us. Curious what is was? Just book a tour with him 😉

Had a wonderful time hiking up Mount Sibayak, myself and my wife went with Geleng, he had first class knowledge of the volcano and explained many facts to us and answered all our questions. Geleng also had expert knowledge of all the plant life and it’s medicinal use, we had a great time and would recommend using volcano tour expert Geleng, he is a real diamond geezer.
