    Nice enough, but not peaceful.
An an Aussie, my beach standards are high. What was good: Warm environment, warm water (I only paddled my feet), lots of shops and restaurants nearby to have a sunset meal. Nice atmosphere to sit and sunbake. What was not good: People selling you stuff the minute you stand still or sit down, rubbish and glass on the beach, making walking barefoot a bit of a risk, walking for ages around the backstreets trying to find a way through the resorts that block the beaches. We just had one walk here because it was less risky in the hotel pool. Not the place for peace and quiet.

    Beautiful food
Such a superb menu with a large range to suit all tastes. We both had fish dishes, one served in a mild curry, the other served Belgian style, enjoyed with a glass of top quality Margaret River wine at a budget price. Loved it...and the great cheerful service and ambience. Lovely quiet location away from traffic.

This is an evening beach to fly kites, throw a frisbee or laze around on.
Although not safe to swim, this lovely area is typical of many beaches around Indonesia and Thailand. There’s always beach cushions and seats available while one has a drink. But, be careful of being bitten. Cover your lower back and thighs. There’s sand fire ants and possibly bedbugs in the beach cushions.

    A fantastic beach experience
Seminyak beach is simply superb however prices are higher for everything compared to Kuta beach. There is a certain air of quality on this beach and the food in beachside cafes and bars is also of a superior quality. Staff are very competent and very very helpful in this area. Prices do reflect the quality of service and food. Beach sellers here are much more respectful and don’t pressure sell or continue to pester you.

Seminyak Beach - not a particularly pleasant experience.
Seminyak Beach is described as white sand - it is not! The sand is grey volcanic and, unfortunately, littered with debris from the hundreds of people who congregate on the beach, especially at the weekend. It is, however, a great spot for watching sunsets.

    Breathtaking experience
Breathtaking and surreal views. The waves, sky and weather were stunning and watching the sunset was an amazing experience. The beach was tranquil and it was quiet at this time of year. We got to spend a lot of time bonding on the sun loungers during our honeymoon here. Coconut water was my favourite drink of the year because it was simply delicious.

    A weekend at the beach
I have mixed feelings about this beach. The people that live and work at the beach and the surrounding area couldn't be more friendly and welcoming. However I don't know weather the time of year i visited (march) was the reason for a strong smell of sewage. The beach was also littered with rubbish and you could see the local people picking it up on a regular basis. The sea was clear and warm and was a surfers paradise. Sunsets were amazing and the food I had in the restaurants was some of the best around.

Bali Trip June 14 - 17 2024

A promotional offer kick started the thought and a public holiday perfectly following the weekend made our Bali trip to roll on. We had 2 and half days to explore. Once we booked tickets I started following Bali videos around Seminyak and thanks to all youtubers to let us know Bali’s beauty, planning, about Gojek riders to help reach destinations faster on narrow roads of Bali.
Friday midnight we reached Seminyak and after filling up our tummies late at night we had good rest at our Avani Seminyak Bali Resort.
We woke up to a beautiful morning and walked around the resort as kids were still sleeping.Sun rises early by around 5 am in that part and being from Assam the land of early sun rise mornings,I just fell in love with the morning calmness around the resort.
After having breakfast with tasty crossants and my son’s all time favourite fluffy banana pancakes we headed for Seminyak beach. 20 mins walk to the beach gave us a glimpse of how Balinese make effort to keep their place clean. It was around 8 am and roads were empty and shopkeepers were sweeping there frontyards. Every shop had kept small offering of flowers on small bamboo baskets at middle of the entrance as a mark of respect to God.Few taxi riders and Gojek(rental bike riders) were asking in sign language if we are looking to hire.I enjoyed the walk praising the cleanliness of the tourist spot and calmness of the morning.
Surfing lessons of Seminyak beach starts in the morning by 7 am onwards and are of 2 hrs duration in general for beginners. We had kept our holiday easy going so had not done any previous bookings of shows/activities.As me and my kids always gets excited by water sports, we had contacted an instructor before coming to Bali. Finally my kids started the lesson by 9 am with him.
Seminyak beach and the stretch towards the Double 6 beach is very clean and not too crowded. Group of ladies making reels and youngsters playing flying disc at the beach was a sight to enjoy. A Hindu Balinese group was offering prayer and there was similarity of keeping prasad in the front and ringing bell as priest was chanting mantras.
Kids got a short break from surfing and we had cold coconut water from big sized coconuts just coming out of ice box. The surfing instructor had his wife and 2 years old son that morning in his stall and wife was from different nationality (of Europe) and now she has settled as Balinese.
An open common area to shower made it easy for all of us to quickly brush off sand after we were done at beach. It was around 11:15 am. The public toilet was also clean and free to public. Their cleaning staff are responsible people to alert everyone to not use the toilet for showering.
Quick lunch at the nearest restaurant along the beach gave immense happiness to the hungry family coming out of water. We tasted Indonesian Ikan(fish) curry, Ayam goreng (Chicken fry) and even though I had made list of most rated restaurants of Seminyak we happened to had our meals at the best option available in the area wherever we finish a sightseeing.
Here comes Gojek riders and I just loved siting on the bike and taking ride back to resort. After many years I happened to sit at the back seat of bike. If you don’t have the Gojek application also, riders are available all around and they negotiate on a price and its pretty fast. The cars gives respect to two wheelers and everyone waits patiently for the other and that’s how safe it is to be on bike in Bali. Roads are single lane and there was no honking at all.
Uluwatu temple and Kecak Dance made our Saturday evening special. We left by Grab Taxi from Seminyak at 4:30 pm and reached Uluwatu temple by 6:30 pm, 2 hours travel time at peak evening hours and while kids took long nap after surfing I enjoyed watching the big ball of fire setting down and getting glimpse in between the houses and the sea shore.Driver told us Balinese are not allowed to make tall building and if Hindu Balinese have 2 storeyed house then they must have a temple on the rooftop. The concept is height of the house cannot cross the temple height.
The crowd at Uluwatu temple waiting for 2nd show at 7 pm consisted of different nationalities. We purchased tickets at the counter which was little confusing as crowd queue away from the counter. Girls groups, families who came in package tours and their kids planning for their late evenings unfolded many stories.Ramayana - parts of Sita haran until Lanka dahan was shown in the Kecak dance. The thrill of sitting in the ampitheatre with 72 performers of the Kecak dance became lively once Hanuman appeared on the stage and made it interactive. Reading the leaflet received at the ticket counter helped kids to understand. A very disciplined crowd of nearly a thousand spectators allowed me to walk down the stairs without a hassle.
As it got late around 8:45 pm we avoided taking taxi to save on time.My daughter and husband took one Gojek and 3 riders transferred my family to Seminyak. Gojeks and chit chat with the rider made Uluwatu Semiyak 50 mins ride very interesting. My rider talked if we visited Komodo island of Indonesia.
Indian restaurant Queen’s Tandoor on busy Seminyak street served us the hungry souls looking for food at past 10 pm once we arrived from Uluwatu. The advantage of walking in and around the place of stay helps to navigate the roads. As kids knew the roads and were feeling sleepy they walked by themselves back to resort after dinner and we took a walk on the hustling bustling Seminyak street and enjoyed one of the Balinese spa.
As we wanted to explore some more of Bali we decided our 2nd day of trip - Sunday for exploring Ubud- the cultural centre of Bali. Seminyak to Ubud takes 1.5 hours so we requested for early breakfast at 6:30 am at our resort and took a grab taxi to Alas Harum by 7:20 am. The road to Ubud is full of beautiful temples and local houses ,shopkeepers were busy in cleaning their frontyard before opening their shops. As we reached early in the morning by 8:45 am we enjoyed the family Bali Swing with waiting time just 40 mins. As Alas Harum has beautiful photo corners we explored the glass floor, nest corner and enjoyed the beauty of the greenery. Kids loved running on the ricefields and we did some video calls to our relatives to enjoy the scenic beauty together.
Thanks to youtubers like Solo Indian girl traveller, Paresh Jain,Wanderer minds and many more as I learnt I have to take care of my leg as rice fields like Tegellang or Alas Harum has slides of steps. My hiking stick helped me to enjoy the beauty of the rice field, the small water fall, sky bridge.
After completing Alas Harum sight seeing in 2 hours we booked Grab taxi at 10: 45 am to Pura Tirta Empul(Holy Water Spring). The grab driver being a new driver on the road and navigating with manual car on the hilly road made me grasping for my breath as his car slipping down at a slope. Even though roads were not at all steep his grammar on clutch and accelerator needed more polish on those roads. The drive was just 20 mins so we reached temple by 11:05 am. At Bali entry tickets are there for each and every temple. As we entered the temple I could relate it to our Naamghars and Douls where people can sit after offering prayers. We saw long queue for Holy water however another pond attracted us and we were mesmerised with its beauty. As it was 11:30 am kids and myself needed little filler to energise us for next sightseeing. The restaurant had few options of snacks and we opted for cup noodles which boosted us up for next 2 hours of queing up for Holy water.
The temple has a beautiful history of the Holy water bathing and I had been reading many articles. My husband had the opinion that since we are here and this has a significance let us go for it. The queue to reach the starting point of the Holy water pool was 30 mins.If you are planning for a dip please take account of time and save aside 2 hours for completing if it’s a crowded sighseeing day. When you step into the stone filled pool the whole experience is very good. Moving from one holy spring to the other was not easy for me as my foot pains a lot. Holding on to my son and with assistance from husband who was queuing up after me we completed all the holy springs in a row in 2 hours time. A couple from UK whom we we met at our flight from KL to Denpasar happened to avoid ritual of the bathing in Holy Water springs even they they waited throughout the queue, a wise decision for them to avoid catching cold at their age in order to continue their onward journey back home.
The temple has very good facility of changing room and we completed our visit by 3:00 pm. It took us almost 4 hours at Pura Tirta Empul and we enjoyed our experience. A unique experience ,ritual showing similar significance we Indians give to dipping in Holy Ganga river in India.
If you want to buy souvenir save time to do shopping on the exit of the temple. The walkway to exit is full of shops with local business products. As we already booked our taxi we couldn’t wait.
At 3 pm we headed directly for lunch - a special one my brother gifted at Bale Udang Mang restaurant to my son on successful completion of his O level exams. The pleasant coincidence was that the restaurant was on the way to Seminyak. The restaurant is famous for its Bebek Betutu(roasted duck) and in an hour by 4 pm we landed in the beautiful serenity of the restaurant. Sitting area are water pavillions where we sat cross legged on the bamboo floor and ate on low hardwood table. In an hour we finished our delicious lunch and had grab taxi for Seminyak by 5:20 pm. As it was peak evening hours it took exactly 1.5 hours to reach Seminyak. At Bali taxi drivers, Gojek riders are all very soft spoken people and always speak nicely. Our driver was from Java and is working at Bali to make his living. His family lives in Java and he makes trips by road or ferry to meet his family back home. He guided us for shopping at Agung Bali and he dropped us there by 6:45 pm.
Agung Bali is a shop with reasonable rate for shopping. It offers wide range of souveniers, local dresses, key chains, beautiful clips. However the local products we saw outside Pura Tirta Empul seemed to be best one since we landede at Bali. As we could not pick up much to our choice we moved out in about 40 mins. We booked grab to our lively, lovely Seminyak street and reached there in just 10 mins drive by 7:45 pm.
We had yet to buy gifts for some functions back home so we started heading towards shops. The roadside shops offered variety but expensive than what we saw at Agung Bali. Tourists interested for buying can shop best at Pura Tirta Empul exit and also at Agung Bali. Krishna Oleh Oleh is also one of the market I heard from youtubers. As we had not much shopping to do so we finished at Seminyak street only.
After walking long trails at Alas Harum and spending 2 hours at Holy Water in Pura Tirta Empul I was sleepy and looked forward to wind up my day. We had delicious dinner - fried rice and fried noodles at a local restaurant on roadside and then headed back to resort.Lovely Sunday spent at Ubud left me with sweet memories of the day.
Monday morning was special as it was last day at Bali.Kids wanted to enjoy at the swimming pool. However the lovely Seminyak beach was something I was looking forward to . So me and my husband went to enjoy the walk to the beach, enjoyed tall waves at that early morning hours around 8 am.The surfing lessons were about to start and before bidding bye to Indian ocean I thanked God for this trip which was a sudden plan and filled with lovely memories.

Could be an amazing beach but it’s public which is fair enough but no maintenance.

Rubbish and dogs freely running with owners and happy to let their dogs deposit excrement everywhere.

All in all a shame. Could be special.

Horrible, cannot swim too dangerous currents, also flagged on the coast. The beach is good to watch sunset if you don't want to swim. Seminyak super busy, very high traffic, no places to walk, 2km 10 minutes with taxi. Lots of shops but no sidewalk to walk. One way streets, lots of motorbikes.

Not impressed with the beach. We walked from Seminyak Square down alley, along road and over a very polluted stream (which then flowed into the ocean). Poor signage to beach. We did not see any beach bars or cafes. Sea was quite rough with strong undertow. Narrow area had yellow/red flags flying but not obvious life guard.

The most disappointing tourist destination I've experienced is Seminyak Arjuna area in Bali. Along the road to the beach, shop workers harass tourists, and incidents of chain and bag snatching occur frequently. Despite reporting these issues to the police, no action is taken. It's an extremely unsafe place, and I advise anyone planning to visit Seminyak to exercise extreme caution.

Gorgeous beach for relaxing and watching the sun set. Numerous eateries may be found along the beach. I had fun drinking a beverage and seeing the sun set. Very soothing.
