Beautiful views and woodland hikes

Apart from missing the correct right turn to the waterfall parking spot we thoroughly enjoyed the nature reserve and had a short hike up the mountain trails. The views are lovely.

Stunning nature reserve, beautiful mountains... loving the unspoiled nature, friendly staff, hiking trails in good condition. My favorite is the plaat.

We recently did a 12km walk in Marloth, it's a really accessible area just 10mins outside Swellendam. We had a great day out and the walk was good, however, the information available to describe the various routes was very poor, which means that people could easily set off off on a walk above their capability and get into trouble. Additionally... More

We had a nice walk here being watched by 3 baboons. Unfortunately it was too hot that day to do a longer hike. If you go in summer start very early.

My son and I were lucky enough to get a local to guide us up the Twaalfuurkop Peak. The trail distance is about 12.4km and it took us 7 hours to hike up. The hike starts from the reserve office and takes you up a very steep climb (you go over the "vensterbank", which is a ridge between two hill... More

My husband and I enjoy taking early walks in the nature. South Africa is a paradise for hikers, and those that like to go for shorter walks. Above Swellendam there is this beautiful nature reserve that we got curious about seeing. We went there early one morning and bought a passport into the reserve. I had seen on TripAdvisor that... Although signage isn't great we did enjoy the walk, do take enough water as its a climb and can get warm!

The walk to the waterfall is covered and not too hard, some climbing "steps" on a set out path. Make sure to go to the toilet at the main gate before starting this adventure.

Last time we stayed in Swellendam we onoy had one night and a two year old, so hiking was not an option and something we wanted to include on this two night stay. The nature reserve offers incredible scenery but there must have been a crossed wire for the 7.5km Platte East walk to be described by a ranger as... More

The hike through the shadows of the wood up the slope of the mountain to the Duiwelbos Waterfall was moderately exhausting - just as it should be on a hot day when you hike with young kids. Unfortunately the water pond at the waterfall does not look clean enough to take a cooling bath.
