A NewJersey wine experience worthy of Napa Valley
Sep 2021
The best thing to come out of New Jersey since Bruce Springsteen may very well be Unionville Vineyards. My wife, Margaret and I popped by the vineyard on a Tuesday and were greeted by John Cifelli the GM of the vineyard and a trained sommelier. We did not have a reservation for a tasting and the vineyard doesn't normally do them on Tuesdays. Nonetheless, we were treated to sampling of bottles that John pulled from the wine fridge. We are not strangers to good wine and we were truly impressed glass after glass as we moved through lovely nuanced whites to refined reds and even a vintage port. My personal favorites were the stunning 2019 Hunterdon Mistral Blanc and the smooth, bright Revolutionary Red. Unionville is getting some well deserved notice from The Wine Advocate and Wine Enthusiast, and I can honestly say this vineyard is exceptional.

Remarkably consistent in excellence

We love to visit wineries and vineyards, and have been to dozens of them. Almost always I find a couple of varieties that I like well enough to buy a couple of bottles, on rare occasion I buy a half-dozen or more, and the rest of the wines in the flight are disappointing..

Unionville vineyards was an exception. All of the seven wines in our tasting flight were good. It is great to find a place that has vinters who can coax flavor and balance out of every varietal and every blend!

I'll note for the potential visitor that the tasting room is not wheelchair accessible as far as I could tell There is a little food there--imported cheeses and chips.

Our tasting flight server, Jay, displayed a thorough knowledge of eacy wine on our list, but a customer orientation so that he didn't tell us too much to avoid biasing the palate.

The vineyard is lovely, tucked back from the main road in the upper floor of a barn that serves also as their wine lab.

We took home six bottles of our favorites and agreed that if the opportunity arises we will want to return.

Wine tasting @unionvillevineyards

Great property to visit with friends and family!!

They were following covid 19 protocols really well.

Wine tasting was for 16$ per person and they offered 7 assorted varieties of Ted, white and blush wines..

Our server Rich was very knowledgeable and was answering all questions very patiently.

I thought the white wines were better than the reds that we tried. Just wish the reds were more full bodied.

The port was excellent!!

Overall great experience!!

Been here a number of times. Performed live music, attended a wedding, tastings. Brought my girlfriend one Tuesday afternoon for a tasting. She loved the place. Excellent service- very knowledgeable taster. Wines are pricey but excellent quality. Classy place to bring a first date- can't go wrong guys with this place...

Attended the Artisan Market and Wine Tasting event this month. I've visited the winery for other special events in the past. It's always a pleasant experience and the wine is good.

Wine Time with friends

The staff is excellent, HANS was very informative on his knowledge of wines and food paring that go with there wines during the tasting. They have varied white and red wines that will fit most peoples pallets. The inside has limited seating overlooking the wine making area. It is a good place to go during a visit to wineries in the western part of the state.
