My family loves the Watershed! My kids love visiting the center and seeing the animals (especially the turtle), playing with the puppets and puzzles, and exploring! I took my son to a few toddler programs when he was younger, and he enjoyed them. I recently took my daughter to a Messy Science Toddler Program and it was awesome! We've also visited to hike on the trails. Over the weekend, we went to the National Water Day Celebration and we had so much fun. Hiking to the vernal pool to see the frogs and frog eggs was a hit, as well as casting a fly fishing pole, visiting the mermaid, participating in water Olympics, sampling water, painting on slate with water and playing the water game. My son is registered for two weeks of camp this summer, and we can not wait. This is the perfect place for my Nature Loving Son and my family to visit.

We have been here a number of times. The name was changed, though, a few years ago to The Watershed Institute. Lovely nature center with displays, a little shop, and classrooms. Staff are well informed. Plenty of activities and events for families and everyone else. Many programs are free or low cost for those who are not members. Several trails for easy walking, birding, and observing other wildlife.

The visitor center is excellent, and I watched many of the movies (2 minutes each) about battery power, windmills, etc. One section of the building discussed pipelines, and was too biased against them, in my opinion. The butterfly house was great. The frogs in the pond were very loud, quite impressive. We tried following a couple of the trails, but they were poorly marked, and we got lost.

I was pleasantly surprised by this hike. My only complaint was there were no more maps on the information board. Thankfully the large map was clearly printed so I just took a picture of it with my phone. Overall the trails are very well marked - if you walk 30 yards and don't see a marker, then you are on a maintenance trail of sorts. Nice easy hiking. They also had a large outdoor tent set up so I imagine they can host private events as well.

This place is amazing! So in a nutshell, they do fabulous work protecting our local waterways - the staff is extremely helpful and knowledgeable - the volunteers are so nice - the summer camps are out of this world - the Butterfly Festival is a must attend - the yearly membership fee is a steal - the educational opportunities for all ages is priceless.

My daughter and I really enjoyed our visit to the Stony Brook-Millstone Watershed. The butterfly house was a must see. The indoor exhibits were very fun and educational. The gift shop has lots of bird feeders and books to offer as well as inexpensive choices for children. There is a little something for all ages. The trails are nicely maintained. The goats were a nice surprise!

What a great place. Friendly, helpful staff. Did not expect to see this many butterflies in once spot, at least 6 different species and a variety of different size butterflies. This isn’t just for kids, but also for nature photographers. There are outdoor walking paths where butterflies are spotted, but many more in the Katie Gorrie Butterfly House. Not only did I see butterflies, but also Monarch butterfly caterpillars as well as a number of species of grasshoppers. There are also a number of picnic tables if you want to bring a snack to eat. Looking forward to returning here in the next few weeks.

While looking for someplace to take my 5 year old grandson Monday, I came across an ad for a nature walk at the Watershed. So, there we went. Could not have found a better or more interesting place to go. Kids spent better part of an hour (eating their lunch, yes, pack one for them) in a classroom setting learning about moths and butterflies from the most energetic and entertaining young lady. All the kids thoroughly enjoyed her presentation and question and answe period. Then, each were given nets and all went out in the fields to try and catch butterflies. All the kids had a ball. Adults enjoyed themselves too. Then, into the butterfly tent to see loads of butterflies flying around. Then, even after it was over, they have a big room which incorporates live fish, turtles to enthrall and entice their imagination. Best $5.00 I've spent yet. Cannot wait to see what they have scheduled for the coming months. Encourage all to visit and participate.
