Franklin Mineral Museum

Nice! lots of mining history in Franklin . Good for smaller kids but the Sterling Hill mine in nbearby Ogdensburg is much better and well worth the $$ .

Great for rock fanatics and anyone interested in rocks and mining. It's a small place but there is so much to see! The fluorescent room is amazing and is surely the highlight. The mine replica was interesting as well. We went down to the rock field and picked out some cool rocks to take home which was lots of fun.... More

I took our granddaughters to the museum last summer, ages 14-7. On the tour we saw what a mine really looks like...it was cool down there, you might need a light jacket. The fluorescent rocks are beautiful and you are allowed to take a small one home. The guide was interesting to all ages. It took about an hour for... More

I took my grandchildren here not really knowing what to expect. They offer various packages you can purchase. We purchased the rock collecting and museum exhibit. A very nice gent escorted the children to an area where they would be archeologists. They got to unearth as much as they wanted as he explained archeology to them as well as what... More

We visited the museum without admission to the mineral mining. It is small but has fantastic specimens of franklinite and many other minerals. The set up for viewing the fluorescent franklinite was spectacular to see. The staff I talked to were extremely knowledgable and nice since I asked a lot of questions about the specimens. They had minerals for sale... More

The museum looks small on the outside, but is quite large inside. They had rocks/minerals from around the world. Really enjoyed the local mineral/rock room. The beautiful colors and shapes. Who would have known there was so much in NJ. Makes me wonder what I have already collected. My favorite had to be the fluorescent room. The replica of the... More

I took my grandchildren age 10 and 15. It was a rainy day and I thought we would just tour the indoor exhibits. Most interesting was the fluorescent rocks and the reproduction of a mine. There was an impressive exhibition of rocks and minerals. We spent about an hour. We really would have enjoyed it more if the weather was... More

The museum is in the old mine power house. They have a great collection of minerals and a great place to collect in the pit. Very informative staff and displays. Even if minerals and mining are not your thing seeing the fluorescent display is well worth the visit.

More different minerals than any other place on earth! Former zinc mine. Fun to go out with a bucket and hunt for minerals and fluorescent minerals. Highlight huge fluorescent room with rocks that glow under ultraviolet light. Great shop to buy minerals or other cool gifts. Great way to educate children and adults. A must see.
