About
The 1859 Cape May Lighthouse is fully restored and visitors can climb 199 steps to the top for a breathtaking view of the Atlantic Ocean and Delaware Bay. The original Oil Storage Building is accessible and houses a Museum Shop and accessible displays. Open daily from April through November and weekends in the shoulder seasons. Evening trolley tours and Full Moon Climbs offered during the summer season. The Cape May Lighthouse has been restored and is managed by the non-profit Cape May MAC (Museums + Arts + Culture). While located at Cape May Point State Park, it is not affiliated with State Park System. The State Park is open sunrise to sunset and offers many opportunities for nature lovers, including the Hawk Watch platform and well-marked nature trails. Summertime programming is offered to introduce visitors to the history of the Lighthouse and is free of charge. The beach is free but swimming is not allowed. The park is “carry in, carry out;” please do not litter.

    Come and visit the lighthouse
Great place to enjoy being outside. Easy to get to and lots of free parking. The trails are a mix of boardwalk and hard path. We strolled with a baby. You could easily enjoy a day to swim with a bath house right by the parking lot. There are big white swans on the salt pools. We also saw a turtle on the path. During the day you can buy a ticket and climb up the inside of the lighthouse.

A great way to see Cape May!
We had fun climbing to the top of the lighthouse. It was a good workout that I needed to compensate for all the good food I was eating! Lol we went just as the sun was about to set. The spiral staircase was lit up so we had good visibility while climbing. And once at the top the views were awesome! Sky was that orange/pink hue from the setting sun peeking out from the clouds. It was getting ready to storm so we saw flashes of lightning in the distance as well. For safety we decided to get down because lightning is beautiful but dangerous.

    More then just a lighthouse
More to do then we thought here. Some went up the light house and others walked the trails. State Park offers many opportunities for nature lovers, including the Hawk Watch platform and well-developed and marked nature trails. WWII bunker sits on the beach. There is a small museum which the children loved. Lots to see there. All kinds of shells and sea life - we where there long. Picnic spots. Clean bathrooms and a huge lot with free parking.

    Picture perfect
Really beautiful area. We didn’t get a chance to climb the lighthouse but we did walk around the beach and the nature trails. It’s definitely a nice way to spend an afternoon and around sunset you can take some beautiful photos.

Pay a visit, get the combo ticket
A very nice view from the top. There was an informative guide at the top to answer questions. If you get a nice sunny day, hopefully you can see Delaware and Pennsylvania. Be sure to get a combo ticket with the WW2 lookout tower a half mile away. Saves $2. Both combined will take about 90 minutes.

    Attractive Operational Lighthouse
We paid a visit to the historic Cape May lighthouse on our recent US east coast trip. There is a large car park on site and access is easy to view this operational lighthouse standing 48 meters tall. Amazingly it was built way back in 1823 opened in 1859 and continually manned until automation in 1946. Admission is $12 adults and $8 children. Worth a visit.

Worth the 1 hour drove from AC
Husband and I drove from Atlantic city to the lighthouse. Very easy drive! They have trails, observation decks, bathrooms, nature center, beach, and the lighthouse. Be sure to walk the beach and check out the waves. I could've sat on the beach for hours. You can climb 199 steps up the lighthouse. Cape May was a great day trip.

A Coastal Gem Worth the Climb
Cape May Lighthouse is a gem! The views from the top are like something out of a postcard – you can see the ocean and the bay in all their glory. The climb is a bit of a workout, but totally worth it. The whole place is well-kept, and the museum is interesting too. If you're in the area, it's a great spot to soak in some coastal beauty.

While waiting for our departure time on the Cape May ferry, we stopped at Cape May Point State Park. Nice area to wait for ferry. There is a Lighthouse to tour. Beach for walking on (no swimming). Picnic area. We ate our lunch there. Then, ten minutes back to the ferry. Very nice.

Great view from the top after you climb all 199 stairs. Staircase is cramped with people going up and coming down. Be sure to check hours before you go.

Great view from the top - you can see the whole cape - but lots of steps to get there with passing places on the way up. Easy enough but beware.

We didn't climb the lighthouse due to the number of steps, but took it in from outside. Nice grounds with lots of info. Perfect setting for photos.

We didn't climb to the top of the lighthouse. But it was a beautiful area. There are two small free museums with exhibits and there is a pathway to walk to the ocean.
