My husband and I traveled out to Star Island for the day in August. It was so hot!! But we really enjoyed wandering around the island checking out all the sights. Our boat trip out was nice and the boat crew shared information about the...More

Either on a private boat or a charter boat, the Shoals are a short ride from Portsmouth and a nice short day trip. There's not a lot to do when you get there but it is still worth it. If you can, make arrangements before...More

This island has the history of great fishing pirates murder and great artists. Try the pump organ at the church and the ice cream parlor.

This iconic island stay was fabulous. Accommodations are not modern or deluxe, but the atmosphere is timeless and the island is magical. Don't miss your chance if you ever are invited to an event there, or even to walk around on a day tour.

This is a great activity to do with your family when visiting the sea coast NH area. Tales of love, hauntings and historical drama engage the mind and imagination while your senses feasts on the sights and sounds of the area.

Just my observation, I would not take children out to the Shoals. This is a pleasurable afternoon, with good weather for couples. There is nothing to do when one goes to the Isle of Shoals other than enjoy the ride and walk around the island....More

We took the Thomas Laighton out to the island and stayed there for 3-4 hours just roaming the island, took a picnic lunch and browsed through some of the buildings - interesting history.

I know you can not dock on Appledore island, but I think you might be able to on Star Island, where the hotel is.

Yes, you can walk around on Star Island. There are also daily tours to some areas of the other islands there too. It's a beautiful place. The ride out on the boat is also wonderful, not too long, but nice to see Portsmouth... More
