We first saw Fort Constitution from the water on a harbor cruise and thought it would be a good place to visit to find out more about the site. Wrong. It is rather intimidating to have to walk on the blue line to access the...More

A little bit of history on military grounds -- free to visitors --- follow the blue line to get to the actual site --- short and interesting boards on the history of the site

A little creepy being under surveillance while you're walking into the park, but it's military so what you expect. It's a very small place, and we couldn't access the lighthouse, so that was a bummer. But we're glad we went all the same

This fort is arguably where the first hostilities of the American Revolution took place, five months before the better-known battles at Concord and Lexington, Massachusetts, some 60 miles distant. The Revolitionary War actually began in December 1774 when a group of colonists, prompted by Paul...More

This place is located in the Coast Guard station. Not many parking spaces but we were the only ones there at that time. This is a beautiful fort right on the water right next to Portsmouth Harbor Light. It was first built in 1631 and...More

Ft. Constitution is a lovely place to pop in and visit a historic site with great views of the harbor. That's about it. You will have a very closeup view of Portsmouth Harbor Light because it's RIGHT THERE, but you'd probably need to be further...More
