Went to see Dickens’ Christmas Carol at the Palace Theatre in Manchester, NH. It was a sold out show and was extremely well done. I was impressed by the acoustics, and the set design and acting were well done. We sat in the second to last row in the center balcony. Had I known better, we would have purchased seats in the last row of the balcony; the last row has more leg room than any of the other rows in the balcony. I’m 5’8” and my son who also came along is 6’1”. They did not make the rows deep enough for anyone over 5’5” when the balcony was renovated some years ago. Both my son and I had to sit with our knees spread apart with one on each side of the seat in front of us and it was still very uncomfortable! Absolutely no leg room for normal sized adults! We couldn’t wait till intermission so we could stand up and stretch our legs. Next time we will sit in the last row of the balcony or somewhere in the orchestra seats.

Appalling venue.
Carpets are Filthy and your feet stick to them.
Refreshments prices are horrendous and the toilets with 1 cubicle (no urinals) were also pathetic.
The worst thing however was the seating inside. It says limited legroom. If you are above 4ft in height you are totally screwed. The most uncomfortable, expensive awful venue I've ever had the misfortune to go to.
The heat inside the venue was beyond stiffling. I will never go back to this dump and advise anyone reading this to not go.
Charlie and the chocolate factory was ok but ridiculously extortionate for an overly average performance.

Made a last-minute decision to see Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, and got cheap seats on the day.
Unfortunately, the seats located in the Grand Tier was a very unpleasant experience. Firstly the leg room is poor. I am 6ft so I might be an outlier here, and it was a cheap ticket so I am not expecting luxury, but using dimensions of humans from a different century to base your seating plan on is not the best policy for the 21st century.

The worst aspect of these seats are that the toilets are located either side at the bottom of the Grand Tier, which means that people are constantly going up and down throughout the performance. This is incredibly distracting. I don't really have an issue with people needing the toilet mid-performance, especially as it was a show heavily aimed at children (although why people can't go to the toilet before the show starts is lost on me- probably due to the endless amounts of fizzy drinks sold by the theatre on offer isn't helping). The stairs which lead to the toilets in the Grand Tier are incredibly loud, meaning you hear every damn footstep of people going up and down. Some audience members ran up and down these stairs mid-performance. It sounded like a heard of animals going up and down those stairs. Incredibly distracting when you are trying to watch and listen to what is going on in the show. This theatre really needs to sort this out. Surely they could improve the material on the floor to make it less loud. I suspect as this is the cheapest section of the theatre they don't really care.

Also I wish ushers would stop letting people in who are late. What happened to the wait until the interval policy? If people are late, tough.

In between having late-comers distracting from the stage, and the stomp stomp stomp of people walking/running up and down the stairs to the toilet, you also have to contend with people opening the loudest food packaging they could possibly buy. People seem to think the theatre is like the cinema. I have absolutely no idea why going to the theatre should be half eating food, half watching a show. If people bring their own sweets then I would understand that this might be out of control of the theatre, but the fact that you can buy these noisy items from the theatre itself means that this is clearly a money spinner endorsed by the theatre.

Overall, not a great experience. This theatre now has an infamous reputation for bad audience behaviour. I hope things would one day improve.

Went as a group to see The Lion King. Production was lovely, but the theatre experience itself was dreadful.

Aggressive searches at the door, with grandparents and their grandkids being chucked out of line for having sweeties in their bags. Extortionate snacks available to purchase inside - over £2 for a packet of crisps, FGS.

The Grand Tier, where we were seated, is a health and safety nightmare - getting to the toilet was a death-defying mission, and the stairs to the seats were narrow, irregular, and practically vertical.

The seats themselves were just ludicrous - I'm 5'2" and even I didn't have enough room to sit comfortably. My knees were on the shoulders of the person in front, and the person behind kept accidentally kneeing me in the head. There wasn't even room to place a bottle of water on the floor, so everything had to balance on my lap for hours.

The theatre was ridiculously warm and claustrophobic, and the environment ruined what should have been an enjoyable (and extremely expensive) afternoon.

We visited the theatre to see school of rock, unfortunately we only got to see the first half as a member of our party took sick. The staff were incredible providing first aid and giving us privacy in a room of our own. They provided water and never left our side right up to exiting the theatre. We cannot thank them enough.

Just saw "Mama Mia" yesterday at the Palace and I can't stress enough how great the show was. I've seen musicals literally all over the world and this one rates right up there with a Broadway or West End production. Frankly I was a bit shocked. This may have been because of the pandemic shut down this very show in this very theater a year ago but the voices of Donna and Sophie were exceptional. The supporting actors were outstanding. And the dancers were a fine as any other big city (but in a small city) show. And the musicians NAILED it. If you live in the Manchester NH area and can catch this musical, you will NOT be disappointed. Totally worth the 2 hours!!!!

Mama Mia February 29 2020. The cast and production were better at the Palace then in NYC. Strong voices, good choreography and musicians. Day 2 and not much can be improved. Go see it!
