We hiked the Franconia Ridge trail - took the Falling water trail first for a good grunt up the mountain (and beautiful waterfalls). Just a warning- I am not sure if New England knows about switchbacks for trails- they are pretty much straight up. Once you summit Little Haystack, then take ridge to summit Mt. Lincoln, then a no name,... More

I have never traveled by car up in the Northern United States. Most of my vacations are usually south and sand. My husband had an idea of renting a car and driving state to state for a week. This was either a brilliant plan or disastrous! The three of us got to choose specific destinations along the way and then... More

Recently had a whirlwind visit through New Hampshire and top of my list of things to check out was Franconia Notch State Park, particularly The Flume. Simply stated, it did not disappoint. I am so happy I put this at the top of my list for places to check out. Teamed with the Basin and Baby Flume, I loved it.... More

There are many natural attractions here, all more or less due to the topography of the area. Cannon Mountain, The Old Man, Flume Gorge, Avalanche Falls, countless trails and waterfalls. Look on Googlemaps of the area. you will see so many opportunities you will not be able to take them all in. If you concentrate on walking and on the... More

Top notch state park with fantastic mountain scenery. Clean area and friendly staff, lots to do including day trips and overnight camping. Absolutely breathtaking in the fall with the change of colors of leaves all over the mountains. Be sure to visit the Flume Gorge and the Cannon Mountain Aerial Tram.

We took the tram up the mountain when the fall foliage was at its peak. The view from the tram was wonderful. Unfortunately, the mountain top was covered with clouds, but we enjoyed a short hike through the clouds.

Nice place to cool off on a hot summer day, a lot of fun for people who enjoy the outdoors and walking..easy hiking and paved biking.. A little research goes a long way and the options in and around this area are great for a day trip.. Appropriate foot wear/water and know the trails/map if you are going to hike...

The morning we did the hike, my husband and I went to the general store in the park and asked what the best hike was. The ranger said that it was definitely Franconia Ridge Trail - an 8 mile loop. My husband really didn't want to do it, as he is a little out of shape and 8 miles seemed... More

This is not to be missed. The information center is gorgeous with a restaurant, gift shop, great displays and an informative movie. The hike along the gorge and flume is about 2 hours with lots of resting spots if needed. It truly is a natural masterpiece!! The water features, trees, vistas, and covered bridges are so worth the effort, time... More

Lots of hiking trails for all levels - even the paved walking/biking path. The scenery is just beautiful mountain streams all over, some small lakes and waterfalls. Just a magical place to be.
