Very nice, highly recommend for lap, swimming.
Also a nice playground and a lovely river walk.
Not big. Not for baseball or cookouts.

Henry Law Park is a popular multi-use, city-owned park in Downtown Dover.

The park is named for Henry Law, a very civic-minded city resident who owned a lot of real estate. He donated land to the city to be used for recreational purposes.

For many years, the park grounds were mostly open land. The gundalow Captain Edward H. Adams, a replica of a historic long, flat-bottomed barge-type transport boat based in Portsmouth that originally ferried cargo and passengers up and down the rivers under sail. It was retired from service as an educational and tour boat. It was moved to Henry Law Park in 2014. It was to be a showpiece in the nice playground that was added in 2017.

The Dover Rotary Skatepark was added on other land nearby.

There is a still a large portion of the park that is open land. On my most-recent visit during the COVID-19 time, a lot of people were scattered about that area on lawn chairs, blankets, and benches reading books, magazines, and email.

There are some picnic areas, too.

And, as I was, others were walking along the paved walkway along the riverfront which takes a sharp bend and reverses direction near the end of the park.

At the time of my visit, the playground was closed due to COVID-19 protocols, but I could walk through it and did get to see everything. It had a large swing set. There was a fun tower to climb. That resembled the Garrison Tower a little. There was an enclosed sandy area with a stone sculpture of a fish – sort of a sandbox. There were also some open areas.

The Butterfield Building is within the park. It houses the NH Children’s Museum.

There is also an indoor swimming pool on park grounds.

Under Rotary Club of Dover sponsorship, money was raised for development in and near the park.

The Rotary Arts Pavilion, an outdoor venue, was built on park grounds. It hosts a summer concert series and children’s programs. Periodically there are community events.

Admission to the park is free.

There is metered on-street parking on Main Street and Henry Law Avenue. There is more parking on the other side of the river near the Dover Rotary Skatepark on River Street.

For its location and various features, I rate Henry Law Park at 4.50.
