Bellamy Park is a 33-acre community park near the new Dover High School. The main feature is a disc golf course. There is a small picnic area near the parking lot.
Access to the main parts of the park is over a footbridge and up two short flights of stairs that have no handrails.
Up in the main parts of the park are the 18-hole disc golf course, a small playground, and areas for walking, jogging, and trekking around the perimeter.
The Bellamy River runs through the park. There is a place where fishing is allowed.
Crossing the footbridge, one can see a scenic spot. There are rocks in the river that create rapids and a mini waterfall. I always pause to watch the water flow there.
At the time of my visit, the trail was open, but the disc golf course and the playground were closed due to COVID-19 restrictions which were eased in time for Memorial Day weekend.
Passing the small picnic area, I noticed that the paint on the one table was peeling.
During my visit, I had a relaxing trek. I’ve been here before when the disc golf course was open and have had to be on the lookout for flying discs as not all disc golfers are skilled at controlling the direction of their discs.
Also, while I was there, I saw a few other people using the trails.
There is a building on the property that houses the pro shop which is operated by Broken Chains Disc Golf Supplies from Manchester, NH. It wasn’t open yet as of mid-May.
Only the picnic area and the clearing adjacent to the river are fully handicapped accessible.
And, for those with issues with balance, a walking stick is highly recommended not only for the stairs but also for the uneven terrain up in the park which has a few slightly hilly and sloped areas.
In the winter, this park becomes a cross-country skiing course.
For some of its unique features and its scenic setting on the river, I rate Bellamy Park at 4.50.
