Sandalford Wines are an historic winery, first established in the Swan Valley by pioneering surveyor John Septimus Roe. Sandalford Wines established a winery in the Margaret River region of the southwest of Western Australia in the 1970s. The region soon developed a reputation for producing award-winning Cabernet Sauvignon and Chardonnay wines. Recently, the region has been gaining accolades for its Shiraz. The cool maritime climate is similar to Bordeaux, quite different to the Swan Valley's warmer temperatures. . Sandalford is now owned by the Prendiville family, who have a long history of involvement in the State's hospitality industry. The Margaret River region produces classic wines which are known throughout the world.

Sandalford was one of the first vineyards established in the Swan Valley. This warm climate region produces some marvellous red wines. However, the centre of gravity in Western Australian wine making has trended towards Margaret River, which is a cool climate region. Margaret River is well known its white wines for which Sandalford is famous.

We arrived just as the lights went out on Metricup Rd. Nonetheless the tasting still happened. Sandalford is a friendly cellar door with good wines and a long history in WA. It is well worth a visit.

It was so nice to go to a winery that didn’t turn their nose up when you say you like late picked but instead pull out several bottles that might suit your taste (which I bought I might add)
Warm friendly atmosphere including a loving welcome from June.

While the wine at Sandalford was lovely the member of staff who served out group seemed uninterested. Admittedly we were a tour group of 22 but she didn't conduct the tasting very well. She rushed through an introduction going through all of the wines and them said taste what you want, rather than the traditional one wine at a time explanation. She was also rude to a number of other people on the tour who wanted to take photos. Overall good wine but staff really let them down.

Visited the Sandalford Winery on a group tour. It's only wine tasting and no food served. I tried some sparkling wine which was pretty good and bought some Chardonnay and Sauvignon Blanc which I Liked. Most of the wines I tried, I did not like. Also was told that they may start exporting some of their better wines to the US in order to compete with the US wineries. Since I did not try any reds, I can't comment on them.

The best thing about this place is some of the novelty gifts available. The sparkling wine was excellent, but all round it is not in the same class as many of the other smalll wineries in terms of welcome, facilities, views and food.
