We took the coal fired steam engine for the nostalgic feel, didn't regret it one bit. Amazing piece of machinery. Class act, professional and smooth running operation. I felt safer riding this than driving the road, so pick your poison. Our brakeman, Tom, was a lot of fun and just awesome at his job. He spoke of the history, operation,... More

"Fun" thing to do. Nowhere near as exciting as their marketing hype would have you believe. Really expensive trip too. We paid almost $140 for two round-trip tickets. I would not recommend this as a must do activity in the White Mountains-better to go hiking.

Ok, this is very worth while. It is one of only 2 cog trains in the US and the oldest! You go up the side of the mountain, get about an hour up there to look around and check out the little museum, then ride back down. It is generally cold and windy up there - and if you're in... More

We were fortunate to have a gorgeous day to ride to the summit of Mt. Washington. The views from the rail car were spectacular - sit on the left side going up for the best views. The only drawback is that you only get about 45-50 minutes at the summit. This was fine for us to get a good look... More

I love this train and view. On a clear day you can see forever, ok over 90 miles to the Atlantic ocean...Take the first train in the morning, it's the old diesel one.

Went up to Mt. Washington via the Cog with my family. It was a great way to get to the Summit. A little pricey but my husband had no desire to drive up so is was our only alternative...well worth it. You get an hour at the top which is plenty of time o get pictures, use the rest rooms... More

As a college student I sought out adventure. I wanted to work atop Mount Washington. In 1963 I received a letter from Arthur Teague offering me a job as assistant cook... Maybe $150 a month plus room and board. I rode up the famed Cog Railway with my parents, learned how to cook, and lasted one month! I have traveled... More

We went up on Monday. We were blessed with perfect weather - sunny, mostly clear skies, slight breeze, maybe in the high 60s at the summit. The ride up/down was so much fun with excellent narration. The views - far into Vermont and Maine - were amazing. The old former Tip Top hotel was very interesting, and the museum, cafes,... More

Simply beautiful! A sizzling hot sunny 93 degrees at the base, and a windy, numbing 44 degrees at the top, so if you go in the summer, dress cool but take your coats! The view is amazing! Ride is very slow, 5mph, allows time for great picture taking. Expensive but worth the experience. Original coal cog runs only once daily... More

A ride up to the top of Mount Washington on the Cog Railway is an experience for the whole family . The views are amazing. Learning about the railway and the mountain from the tour guides/engineers was both entertaining and informative. Although a little pricey, I wouldn't want to go if they didn't maintain the railway safely. It would be... More
