The “first run” of the morning steam train is a real treat for the true RR buff – a wonderful reliving of the old the coal burning steam engine days. Highly recommended for anyone who enjoys a little nostalgia. We were pleasantly surprised to find a wonderful restaurant operating at the Base Station. However it is too bad they had... More

We purchased our tickets in advance. It is a good distance from North Conway where we stayed but the drive was beautiful. Today the mountain was shrouded in clouds with the temperature in the low 40's with 30 mph winds and gusts to 50 mph. The rides up and down were narrated by two gentlemen that were very knowledgeable. The... More

As a long time backpacker and climber in the Whites, I looked at the Cog as a distraction. However, as a rail buff, I see the beauty in this historic railroad as well. In the recent years, the organization has added diesel-electric locos burning eco-friendly fuel (replacing the coal burning steam trains on all but one of the trains each... More

Rode the Cog Railroad to the top of Mt. Washington. Decided to take the bio-diesel train and not the steam. The steam engine is coal fired and could get a little messy. The ride up took about 45 minutes. The Engineer/Brakeman was very knowledgeable and gave us some history of the Cog. The cloud ceiling was about 5000 feet, so... More

Book early because it fills up fast. Enjoyed the trip up the mountain and the views from the top. It was a sunny day and no clouds but very windy on top. We had one hour on the top to look around, shop, eat and enjoy the scenery. The conductor does a good job explaining the history of the railway... More

A great experience with wonderful views of the Presidential Mts. We experienced a 30 degree temp drop and winds of 38 mph sustained with gusts to 64 mph. Our grands ages 7 and 10 also enjoyed this train experience

The whole family enjoyed this train ride up to the highest summit in New Hampshire. The ride up was entertaining, the hour at the summit was a perfect amount of time to visit the museum, get a picture at the peak, and experience the winds and excellent views in all directions. This is a must do if visiting the area.

This narrated ride up Mt Washington was a three hour round trip tour to an amazing summit with spectacular 360 degree view. We were fortunate to have spectacular weather and saw all before proceeding down the mountain through a building cloud bank. We were forewarned to bring a jacket as it is much cooler on top than at the base.... More

Even though I live in a neighboring state, I'd never been on the cog railway. It was a great trip from start to finish--save for the crying babies on each train. Informative conductors, great views. Our weather was flawless, which was a bonus. It was also much warmer at the summit than I expected, given the unpredictability of the weather.... More
