A great taste of how extreme weather can be on this mountain

We unfortunately arrived on a day when the cloud covered the mountain before we even got halfway up the railway. The drop in temperature was really quite dramatic with folks rapidly closing the railcar coach windows and putting jackets on. The wind at the top was pretty vicious as well so it was nice to get a warm bowl of... More

We left a mild October Autumn Day in North Conway and wound up in a winter wonderland. The train was unable to get to the top due to over 5 feet of snow! We took The train up to the Halfway point and took Some great pictures. I will be back earlier in the season to get to the top.

Unseasonal snow the day before and strong winds on the summit restricted our trip to the halfway point but we had a great time. The bio diesel loco pushed us up through the snow giving us great views nonetheless. I would have liked to see the top but that would have meant visiting on a summers day rather than at... More

We pulled into the parking lot and learned that they were sending up one more train. It was a gorgeous sunny afternoon and Mt. Washington was amazingly clear. Our trip was breathtaking with the foliage of surrounding mountains ranging from greens to oranges and reds. It was windy at the top, so we were glad we brought warm coats. What... More

I took my husband on a trip up the Cog Railway for his birthday in Mid-October. He grew up in NH but had never been. It was so terrific. We arrived early for the 11am run up Mt. Washington. It was a beautiful sunny but crisp fall day. Reportedly a week post-peak foliage, but totally spectacular still. We dressed in... More

Colourful drive to base station from North Conway, but unfortunately the steam train left too early for us to catch. However the bio-diesel ride up the rickety wooden track was an experience not to be missed. We were lucky it was a glorious sunny day and the views were spectacular all the way to the top.Although notorious for strong winds we... More

Last time we visited we could not see 10 feet at the top. This time you could see the sun glistening off the Atlantic Ocean 70 miles away. Fantastic views. The first train is the steam ascent after that all other trips by bio-diesel. Being fall the colours were spectacular. temperature drop at top is considerable, especially if windy so... More

Concerned about riding cog on a cold rainy day, however the experience was fantastic! I had gone to summit some yrs ago in summer. Was great !! Now the view was incredible even in not optimum weather. The improvements made the last few yrs were well worth the return trip. New engines, warm and cozy coaches and new base lodge.... More

This is a fun attraction. It is expensive and takes time but is a piece of history and on clear days offers excellent views. There is a gift shop and café at the base of the mountain. There is a lot of walking here.

We turned up here on our drive through New England. They have a cog railway to take you to the top of Mount Washington but we were told he would need to wait at least an hour and that we would be charged $69 each for the pleasure! The train takes about an hour to go up and about 40... More
