The Sparks Heritage Museum boasts 4000 square feet of indoor exhibit space and an outdoor train exhibit consisting of a Steam Locomotive, a Caboose and a Pullman Business Car. Using artifacts to tell the story, the exhibits give a sense of the rapid changes northern Nevada has undergone, from ranching and mining to the introduction of the railroad and into modern times. Tours can be arranged by appointment.

Plan to spend more time than you might think at this little museum. Brings out the fascinating history of Sparks and the surrounding area and would be especiallly good for railroad buffs. Also has interesting artifacts pertinent to local women. Lots of nice restaurants close by. Definitely worth a visit!

Located in a neat bar and restaurant area with plenty of free parking garage parking just behind the businesses, the museum is a must to visit. See relics of the mining industry, the railroads and the lifestyles of early Nevada residents.

We went to a seminar at the museum about the Virginia City "Duel that Never Was". It took a little over an hour and was very interesting and entertaining. The museum is planning on putting on a lecture the first Sat. of every month. After the first one, I can highly recommend them. Right now it's free. If you wish... More

Partner and I left the nugget casino near by to see what was around. We came across a steam engine and carriage from the southern pacific railway. Directly across the road is the museum. Having some time we entered and found a real little piece of Sparks. The volunteer staff are fab and friendly. The cost is $5. The display... More

I was pleasantly surprised to see all the historical displays in this tiny museum. Lots of tidbits from history. The volunteer docents were helpful with questions. There is a huge Basque exhibit as well. Down-home, fun and friendly place.

Sparks is a small town. So the museum is small too. They have some fun actives that everyone can enjoy.

The location has excellent parking. Old structures such as a depot, school house, and older buildings with distinctive architecture surround the neighborhood. The museum exhibits are well laid out and explained through audio visual touch screens. Thoroughly enjoyable look at local history....the photos of the old gold miners are so vivid you can almost taste the sand in their beans!

I have to admit, I sold this place short. It's a tiny museum, but there are literally thousands of artifacts jammed into this building as well as a 45 minute historic tour of several train cars that are parked across the street. Don't miss the tour, don't miss reading everything in the museum: toys, railroad buffs, you name it. What... More

This is a nice local museum in Sparks, Nevada. Its official name is Sparks Museum and Cultural Center. There are outside exhibits such as the railroad and the school house. Inside the museum, there are various exhibits about local Sparks history, railroad history, and slot machines (i.e. they have one of those slots machines where you actually got a tiny... More
