We did the White Domes trail hike as the one I wanted to do (Fire Wave) was closed for the summer months because of the heat. This trail was short but you are mainly walking on deep sand. It starts out level in ankle deep sand and quickly morphed into a rapid drop of step like rocks. After finally making our way slowly and carefully to the bottom the trail curved and went through a slot canyon for about 300 feet. It was a loop trail so we didn’t have to climb back up the steep steps on the way out. After the slot canyon it was a gradual climb back up and around a big hill that brought us back to the parking lot. It was very hot that day. 105 degrees and no shade on the trail made for a difficult morning. Bring lots of water.

This is a decent loop trail. We went clockwise and the first part was down some rocks. We went through a slot canyon. There is an old movie set of a 60’s cowboy movie called “The Professionals”.

There is a decent sized parking area next to the trail head (along with restrooms). The trail begins through a sandy portion and then there is a rocky scramble down the hill. Once you have reached the bottom of the hill, there is a structure left over from a movie production. The trail also evens out here. The best part of the trail is the slot canyon in the center. There's not much shade on the trail, but it's a great little hike.

Really enjoyed hiking the White Domes Trail. Terrific variety of scenery throughout the loop trail including a cool slot canyon. Make sure you hike this clockwise otherwise you will need to make the tough climb up a steep and sandy ascent along the eastern portion of the hike.

This is a great 1-2 hour hike through really cool landscape. You don't have to backtrack since it is a loop trail.
