Entrance is free! Garden is manicured and flowers are beautiful! Ambience is very inviting and romantic. I was actually thinking about making it a great wedding venue :)
Visit if you have time and want great scenery for photos

We had the opportunity to see the Ruins at Ujarras as part of the Orosi Valley Tour that we took. The ruins are set in a park like environment and we were there during the week on a Thursday and it was very peaceful and tranquil since only our group of 9 were there.

The Ruins are basically what is left of the Mission without a roof, doors or windows, and there is sign that gives you the history of the site.

The Church of Our Lady of Immaculate Conception was constructed in the middle of the 16th century and it was destructed by flooding and earthquakes. Only some ruins can be seen today, but they make for a nice and quick stop while in Lake Cachi area.

The legend says that the church was built on top of a box found by a fisherman. The place where the box was found is marked by a tiny stone cross. The box contained a painting of Virgin Mary and nobody could it move from the ground. The church was famous for its bell tower. The bell would start tolling and warning the people in the area about floods or pirate attacks. It is said that the church bell was tolling for a long time in 1666 right before Morgan's pirates attacked the area. The Round windows were used as look-outs to warn the residents of any eminent dangers.

Not a lot to see at this site, and the signage is minimal to help the visitor understand the history and significance. No charge. Attached to a local playground and park. Restrooms on site.

It is worth 15-30 minutes if you are in the area but I would not recommend a detour to see this attraction.

We rented a car and drove there, some roads along the way were not well paved or maintained and the car rental GPS took us through villages and blocked paths on the way through the hilly, convolutional road that leads there. There were several restaurant signs along the way but we did not have lunch or stayed over there. Once you arrive, it felt like we were at the wrong place so empty and not touristy it was, a few parking spots on an empty street and a woman asking for change to look after the car, inside the park there were several stray dogs and a security guard near what seemed to be a restroom. The park is very small, the ruins are beautiful alright, but it was not worth the almost 2 hours’ drive from San Jose. When we were leaving another small group of tourists arrived.

These ruins are in the Orosi river valley and make a great part of a valley tour. The grounds of the attraction are tranquil and is a great place for birders. There are food vendors and washrooms are available.

It's not big, but it's the remains of an old church, set in a nice garden and it's full of green parrots. Very photogenic place and there's a guarded parking lot.

Though now in ruins, one can imagine what an isolated place this was for the first European settlers. Compared to the local wooden housing at the time, this would have been a veritable temple, an imposing rock construction meant to last for eternity. Unfortunately, the builders didn't plan on the cruelty of Costa Rica's constant earthquakes.

Costa Rica does not have many historical site, but this one is one that any visitor should visit. It is a small church in the middle of the Valley and some plantations. It is trully a magical place where a photo session would be great! Also it is a place to spend the day.

Try and pick a time between Jan and March as it can rain and be quite dreary although beautiful during the rainy seasons.
