This is one of the best motorcycle routes in the Pacific Northwest. The sign on the west side of the top of the pass reads "99 miles of windy road". Lots of bicycles on the road every time I've been there.

This is a very scenic part of Montana - of course, most of this part of the country is scenic. We really liled the drive and wished we could have driven the whole route but time constraints mleant we only drove a little over half. We saw a baby moose come down the mountain to the highway!

When we were planning our road trip from Seattle to Yellowstone and back, one of our final legs was determining how to get from Missoula to somewhere in western Idaho, close enough to make the final drive through Washington. We picked a B&B in Kooskia, and decided that Highway 12, through a Scenic Byway, would make a nice drive. Indeed!... More

Very scenic with great views of the Lochsa River and Clearwater River. Be careful and take your time, windy road and lots of wildlife.

I've done it twice on my motorcycle, it is a must go for every biker. The road is very pretty and quiet. When your close your eyes, you can feel the Lewis & Clark expedition. This road along the river, is the best picture you can get of the Lewis & Clark expedition. Slept twice at the Lodge in Lolo... More

Even though I have been down this road many times... it never ceases to be beautiful. The true beauty of Idaho is really a secret. The snow, mountains, rivers and wildlife are always awe inspiring. If you choose this route... take your time, you will be glad you did.

Highway 12 is unforgettable! An amazing drive along the Lochsa RIver and Clearwater River. The road is curvy making it a great place for motorcyclist. Watching the kayaks go through the rapids is both exhilarating and scary. A few places to stop along the way are: 1. Colgate Licks. There is turnout with a restroom and a short loop hike.... More

The scenery along this part of Highway 12 is very pretty. We traveled it in the fall and enjoyed the golden color of the Tamarack.
