Both of my kids (age 10 & 15) are big into gems, so this was a must do activity. It was very hot, so we were all glad that we chose the small bag of gravel to pick through. It's a bit of a tedious process, but the kids were finding all kinds of (pebble-size) gems they knew, so it... More

Gem Valley is a fun place to stop and search for gems. The gravel I have purchased there has yielded many large stones, most that didn't need heat treatment. Heat treatment costs extra and adds time to the processing of the jewelry. I have had Drew make several rings, necklaces, and earrings for me. If you have a really nice... More

It was really fun trying to find gems out of those bags of small rocks. The lady showed us the process on how to get the gems and separate them from the rest of "trash". Honestly, you won't find anything really worth any money. But the treasure hunting experience was really fun and different.

I LOVE this place & I love the convenient location too! My husband & our 2 young children had fun playing in the sandbox near by while I sifted through rocks for sapphires & garnets & I was able to take the rest of the gravel home with me & I later found out that I have just over 28... More

Took our kids, plus cousins kids here, so there were 7 of us. We did both a Garnett and sapphire bag. Bs tag was great and came out to assist quite a bit. Instructions were good. The activity was cool and the kids really got into it for about 30 minutes. But in order to feel you are getting you... More

I'm SO glad we stopped here. We had so much fun. The person working was very helpful and advised us about what type of rock bags to pick out. We went with the smallest of the bags for garnets and sapphires (one of each). She then walked us through the whole process of washing the rocks and combing through them... More

Took my three boys, wife & mother-in-law & had a great time mining for the gems. We found 19 cts. of rough garnets & that was only a fourth of the bag & taking the rest home to go through as a great past time. Definitely recommend this as a great family activity.

While we were in South Dakota our two youngest daughters wanted to pan for gold. Because the lines were long we told them that we would go another day. Two days later we were in Cody and couldn't find another panning or mining experience. My husband and I went online and found this place. We added another day to our... More

I took my girls to the Gem Valley to see what treasures we could find. We bought a 25lb bag of rocks that had garnets in it. After showing us how to pan for them and what to look for, we spent several hours searching and ended up finding 71.7 carats. The kids and myself had a lot of fun.... More

So fun to search for gems! Went with my two boys ages, 11 and 6. We all had a blast being "treasure hunters." Highly recommend.
