Summer Hours (May 1-Sept 30): Monday through Sunday, 10 a.m. Winter Hours (Oct 1-April 30): Thursday through Monday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Visit our website for holiday closures. Charlie Russell documented the West that was vanishing before his eyes, telling the story of the American West as no artist had before. Many of the stories Russell told through Russell's art and life resonate even today. The first museum dedicated to Western art, the C.M. Russell Museum houses Charles Marion Russell's original studio, the home where he lived, and many paintings and bronzes created by Russell and his contemporaries. It also includes a compelling exhibition of Browning Firearms, featuring information on John Moses Browning (1855-1926), one of the world's most important and innovative gun makers. Now allowing photography except for specific pieces (no flash photography). Find out why the C.M. Russell Museum is the art and soul of the American West.

Very interesting place. In my head, before I arrived, thought it would be all about Charlie Russell. It’s not. But still very good.

Russell’s paintings, sculptures, sketches, illustrations, and models were amazing. In addition, the museum has letters, photos and gifts that Russell wrote or annotated. Plus, explanations of how his talents evolved and how the museum came to be.

100% worth it. Great volunteers and great exhibits. Gift shop is A+. Don’t miss it when you’re in town. And their house is really cool!

Did a self guided tour. Boy how this has changed for the better since I lived in Great Falls. We spent almost 3 hours here to see it all. I'd seen much of it before, but hadn't been in the home and the gallery is new. Definitely a "must-see" if you're in Great Falls.

Within a residential setting, this is a well designed museum. Russel's home and studio can be toured. What struck me was how curation could introduce an artist in such a way that you left with an appreciation of Russel's talent. I reveled in the exhibit of Russel's letters with envelopes as a unique storytelling. There were multiple rooms of painting, sculpures, and crafts. Also exhibits of current artists and Russel's contemporaries. I found the lower level bison exhibit outstanding. Wonderful giftshop. I highly recommend this museum which has heightened my understanding of the history oand talents of western art.

Great museum! Doing it on line I did not have the choice to buy senior ticket price. So… that was disappointing, ever little bit helps. Highly recommend the museum.

We attended the CM Russell art auction and viewing party on Thursday night prior to Friday and Saturday’s auction. Friday morning allowed us more free time to explore the museum. Having never been there before we were both impressed. Besides historical works, and Russell home and studio there was Contemporary Western Art as well Historical Art on consignment. The staff, volunteers and management were knowledgeable and friendly.Food and drinks were provided to the guests as well as a good opportunity to meet other artists and see their work.
Prior to the auction event, the museum exhibits all of the work for one month. The work must be juried in by a selection committee and a quite reasonable commission is used to help fund the gallery’s operating cost for the year. Tickets for specific events are purchased by museum supporters or given to participating artists.
The Russell also offers a guest lecturer symposium during Saturday morning for free.
Due to travel constraints we were unable to stay as long as we would have liked.
The museum is a mainstay of the community and something Montanans are proud of. The Russell Art Auction is the event of the season in Great Falls.

This is a very fine display of western art and the life of Charles M. Russell and his wife including their home and his art studio log cabin . You need to stay around 3 hours to see the most of it.

Unfortunately, we visited just after the big fund raising auction for which what appears to have been the majority of the permanent exhibit was temporarily removed to free up space for the auction.

Have been there several times before and was taken back seeing the many empty walls.

That said, there were enough (barely) Russell works to see along with the studio and home.

Seeing Russell's art in person is a whole different experience.
