This park is really worth a visit. The badlands are really beautiful. When we visited there were not so many visitors. We enjoyed the silence and did some little hikes between the badlands. Trails are well maintained and directions are good.

Dispersed camping with views. But there is a 15% grade to some sites. And to the upper viewing/hiking areas of the park. Nice place and really almost right in the town

5 star park!!!! Go, see and enjoy !!!! Has frisbee golf course, many hiking trails, a very up- scale visitor center. Lots of parking, and several campgrounds. Overlooks are along trails and roadways. Thank you Montana for a really nice park.

Over 20 miles of trails. The Gateway to Makoshika trail is paved parallel to the road into the park visitor center. The Paramount trail is gravel from the visitor center to the Campground. Most of the other trails like Diane Gabriel trail and Bluebird trail...More

I've been to Makoshika many times; most recently, it was near sunset for a quick drive through. Everything was beautiful -- the rock formations are amazing. Lots of deer, as well. It was bitterly cold, so no taking time for trails, but highly recommend taking...More

We would definitely recommend visitors to the area take some time at Makoshika State Park. The museum is informative and initiates you as to the rock formations, vegetation and wildlife in the area. Out in the park, from various elevation points you can view the...More

We arrived at the park before the visitor center opened. So we paid our fee outside in the designated box and drove on through the park. Although we did not camp it looks like a nice place to do so.

We had not planned to spend the night in Glendive but I'm so glad that we did so that we could spend time in Makoshika. It was one of my son's favorite places on our roadtrip and we almost passed it by. We hiked one...More

Makoshika State Park, which borders the city of Glendive, MT will only whet your appetite for more Badlands adventures. Luckily, North Dakota and South Dakota each have extensive tracts of their own. Makoshika's Pine on Rocks Campground, if you're tenting, is a do-not-miss location. Well...More

A view of the Badlands on a very intimate scale. I wish we had known about this earlier, we would've come here rather than drive up to the northern unit of the North Dakota Badlands. This would've been a great place to spend more time...More

The hours are posted but, unfortunately, it nearly always seemed to be closed. The best time is before noon, I have found. Had a hard time finding a person after that.

I have witnessed small, lap dogs in the Interpretive center. But they were being held by their owners. I doubt a large dog would be very welcomed in the interpretive center among all the nice displays. Here in Montana... More
