Wife is from Butte and wanted to show me this place. I can imagine how big of a hole this place was before filling part way with water, having seen Bingham Copper mine out side of SLC Utah. Overall this disappointing. There's a lot of...More

This is a great place to stop and see the history of mining in the butte area. The price was very reasonable $2.00 per adult and the signage really explained the history of the copper mining history of the area. It is self guided and...More

To some, the Berkeley Pit is simply a big divot on the earth left after years of underground mining and now filled with toxic water. Standing alone, that really is all you see. However, if you dig (no pun intended) into the historical significance of...More

This place is worth a stop. It really is just a big pit. I will note, that if you like history, the history of this pit and the Anaconda Mining Company is very interesting. You won't get that history here, but its a good visual...More

If you're in Butte it's worth a visit. Pay your entry fee and journey to the pit through a small tunnel (this part is pretty cool) and enter the viewing area of the pit. The pit isn't so amazing as sad, sad to see what...More

Worth a stop to see the remnants of a huge open pit mine. It is now almost full of contaminated water so you miss some of the immense size.

You don't really get a good idea of how big and deep the pit actually is. Having seen the pit when it was in operation in the early 80's compared to the present state is like day and night. Crazy to think of all the...More

We arrived at the visitor center at noon on a Wednesday to find it closed even though all the signs there said their hours were 9-6. Really sad we couldn't see it.

I had never seen a mine before, and it was impressive to see what one looked like and what the consequences to nature could be. I would recommend this to anyone for educational purposes already, and the scene left a lasting impression on what mining...More
