An authentic player piano fills the air with Scott Joplin melodies as you walk through the modest flat on Delmar Boulevard that Joplin and his wife Belle lived in during their time in St. Louis. Lit by gaslight, the home is furnished as it would have been in 1902 when Joplin was composing songs that would make him a national phenomenon. Scott Joplin House State Historic Site, which stands as a testimony to his talent and hard work, also includes museum exhibits that interpret Joplin’s life. The Rosebud Café, a reconstructed structure that recreates a turn-of-the-century bar and gaming club, is available for rent.

Upon arriving in St. Louis I was so excited when I realized that there was a Scott Joplin Historic house to visit. Trip Advisor listed the hours as closing at 4:00 PM. I took a taxi arrived at 3:10 knocked on the door. When my knock was answered I was told that they do not have hours in November.

The Scott Joplin House is interesting, although, as others have noted, there is little in the way of original artifacts in the House. The House itself is quite charming and gives a good sense of what life was like when Joplin lived there. What made the tour wonderful was our guide, Mimi ( C. Stafk-Ukaya). She was livlety, extremely informative... More

Went to the Scott Joplin House as part of the Mo State Parks Passport program and we enjoyed our visit but it was limited by what they can offer. When visiting most historic sites you have expectations of getting a glimpse of (in this case) a person's life during that time period. And while they did have authentic pieces from... More

This is a small and quaint museum. I enjoyed hearing some history about the American Ragtime Composer. The stories were really interesting. The parking is easy here. The player piano brought back memories of my childhood! Really nice museum!

I have been waiting for a couple weeks to go there, and the time I did, we all enjoyed it. It had a lot of information, and it was fun to visit, I won't spoil it, but my favorite part was the last room!

This is one of the homes where Scott Joplin lived and composed some of his ragtime music. There's some interesting information on Scott Joplin, but the home itself does not have much of his personal belongings. But it is an interesting home, made up as it would have been in the early 1900's when Joplin lived there and there were... More

This elegant home was the residence of Scott Joplin during the time he lived in St. Louis. This is the home where he composed some of his classic pieces, including the Maple Leaf Rag and The Entertainer. The guided tour was very informative and included a 15 minute video. The culmination of the tour was the playing of a piece... More

We went with our 5 & 9 year old. 5 yr. old wasn't too interested. 9 year old liked it. We found it to be very interesting and we're very well taken care of by Mimi the knowledgeable tour guide!

The Scott Joplin House is historical but contains no personal artifacts or effects from this Ragtime genius. They have period pieces and a really cool player piano but nothing from the namesake. The tour guide is somewhat knowledgeable of the man and the era but seems a little angry. The museum is in a questionable neighborhood so stay on your... More

The house is off the beaten path and out of the way; set up with pieces from the period that Joplin lived there. Very little is known about his time there. If you must go, for the architecture and the documentary film they show about Joplin's life. That's it. The rest is a waste of time.
