**ALERT for November 28, 2016 - March 2017**: The Tram Ride to the Top of the Arch is TEMPORARILY CLOSED for system improvements until March 2017. During the closure, no ticket is required for entry into the Arch facility for shopping at The Arch Store or watching the award-winning documentary, "Monument to the Dream" (free showings throughout the day). The Museum of Westward Expansion closed, pending installation of all new museum exhibits. As of March 2, 2015, entry-only ticket or tram ticket required to enter Arch. The nation's tallest monument at 630 feet, the Gateway Arch has beckoned visitors since June 1967. The Gateway Arch commemorates Thomas Jefferson and the role St. Louis played in the westward expansion of the United States. A visit to St. Louis isn't complete without standing at the Arch's base and playing professional photographer, but the view from the outside is only half of the experience. Attractions within the Arch include the Journey to the Top (the last tram leaves one hour before closing); educational programs (will be housed at the Old Courthouse); award-winning documentary movie, Monument to the Dream; and a gift shop. Closed Thanksgiving, Christmas Day and New Year's Day. Note: the address shown is for the Old Courthouse which is acting as the Gateway Arch Ticketing and Visitor Center throughout construction. Pedestrian entrance to the Arch Grounds is at Walnut Street at Memorial Drive or via the Grand Staircase from the riverfront.

In spite of all the current construction, the Gateway Arch remains a beautiful location to visit. Our two-year old son loved to watch the construction vehicles working out the west side windows--we probably spent at least 30 min just looking out the windows. Well worth...More

I, too, enjoy watching the construction from the top! Great to hear that you were able to enjoy some quality family time in one of St. Louis' National Parks!

We had an early Sunday morning reservation and the views and the ride were fun. As the grounds around the Arch are completed it will be an even better stop on the STL tour.

We went to a wedding in Saint Louis and this was definitely something on our list to do. We live in Oregon so we have seen the end of the Louis and Clark expedition so it was really cool to see the starting point.

Agreed, we do not suggest anyone with claustrophobia take the tram. If a visitor is hesitant, there is a Tram replica located in the Ticket Center at the Old Courthouse where guests are invited to enter before they make their final decision. The Tram ticket...More

It is great that you were able to have an enjoyable adventure in St. Louis with your grandsons. We make efforts to make it easier for those with mobility limitations, but the confines of the structure create some obstacles. Thank you for posting!
