Saint Duschesne is the ONLY Catholic Saint ever lifted to Sainthood in this entire metropolitan area. St. Charles is blessed...blessed to have such a holy site in our area. As an old Catholic boy, this is an amazing and reverent location. STRONGLY recommend for any Christian to visit.

Don't let the exterior facade fool you. When you step into the Shrine of Duchesne you are in for a treat. Paintings, relics, stained glass, sculpture and beautiful stone alter pieces. This is a place I go regular to escape, to pray, to meditate. There are exhibits that explain who she was and why RPD was an important figure for St. Charles. Definitely worth stopping by.

This shrine to a little known saint, Saint Rose Philippine Duchesne, one of a smattering of American saints, starts in a lovely little chapel with items from the saint's life behind glass. To really learn about her life, it is worth it to arrange for a tour. There was so much history and faith to absorb in so little time! We stayed for about an hour. Please also note the relatively short visiting hours at the shrine and plan your trip accordingly.

Suggest calling before visiting this shrine. The web site says the chapel is open daily from 8-4. However, we found the shrine to be closed on the day we tried to visit. The shrine is very easy to find.

Surprisingly, geocaching brought us to the Shrine. We met a couple of women outside the shrine who were working on the flower borders. They were very friendly. The Shrine was peaceful and had a contemplative aura. A nice spot to stop.

I went to school at the Academy and never realized until I was older how amazing it was to be so close to something so beautiful and sacred!

Very informative the life and travel of St. Rose Philippine Duchesne. The living conditions and where she traveled and lived were in detail. The chapel is very beautiful.

This catholic cathedral is a contemporary design. Our guides for our group tour gave us the history of st Philippine which we knew nothing about. Toured the rooms with lots of photos and artifacts. Probably more interesting to those of catholic faith.

St. Rose Philippine Duchesne is a French-born saint who spent time in America teaching. Her dream was to help the Native Americans, which she finally got to do for a short time near the end of her life. It was very neat to see the plot of a saint - right here in America!

My family of five (3 kids, ages 4, 6, and 9) visited the shrine and did not make plans for a tour due to time constraints. There is a small outdoor shrine which was locked. If memory serves, that was a previous burial spot of St. Philippine. There are windows we peeked in and could see a plaque on the stone floor marking the burial plot.

We walked in to the main shrine (which is a functioning church). Admittedly, I wasn't very impressed as it has a 1960s style design. That design is not my flavor, buy maybe others would enjoy it more than I did. In the church was an elderly woman who was also a docent. Though we hand't planned on a tour, we happily obliged.

What would have been a 20 minute visit turned in to more of an hour stop - and it was for the better. The docent gave a very thorough tour of the chapel, the attached school, and the history of St. Phillipine and her connection with the apostolate that runs the school.

If my memory serves correctly, the current resting place of the saint's remains are in the chapel (see picture). A banner that hung in Rome for her canonization also hangs in the chapel.

It was a great place to see! St. Louis is rich in Catholic history, and this location is a place to learn about part of that history. Non-catholics could enjoy the site and tour also, although it would probably help if they have an interest in history, as I think the historicity of the saint's life would be the more fascinating aspect to that demographic.
