- FrqIndianTravellerPune, India67 contributionsShort and sweet trip to safari. While it's 1 hour safari, you will need another 1 hour to go to start place and back it doesn't include time take to reach from your hotel to Sinh Sadan. Gypsy is best. Lots of deers. Could see some lions and lioness. There are many eating leopard kept in captive - so it's great to watch them. Overall good experience. Slightly overpriced but then you get to see lions in wild within a short time. So worth it.Visited December 2023Travelled with familyWritten 12 December 2023
- Anuja_KothariMumbai, India72 contributionsGood safariThe most important msg is that if you have booked a jeep for Devalia Safari, you need to go and claim your jeep from Gir safari area itself. Devalia safari is about 10-12 km away and we werent aware so we had to drive back to Gir to get our Jeep. Safari was good - could spot lioness, leopards, deer, etc.Visited December 2023Travelled with familyWritten 7 January 2024

Let me address the elephant (or should i say lion) in the room (pun intended). Yes, its not a real daredevil realife adventure safari. Nevertheless, it gives a good chance to explore wildlife while retaining the safety. I would say, if travelling with kids and family, this gives them a taste of what a real safari would look like without taking risk of a real safari.
So we booked the safari permit online and arranged a caged gypsy through our hotel. The process was quite smooth thanks to the support from our hotel. An online permit for caged gypsy safari costs Rs 800 on weekdays and 1200 on weekends. In addition, yoi need to bear the coat of gypsy and the guide , which is another 2000 Rs. Might charge another 100 rs or so to pickup and drop from hotel.
The time slots in morning and evening are pre defined. Its a one hour actual safari and add another 30 mins for pickip and drop.
The staff in the park know the n was a jail for maneater lepords. Apart from that we saw spotted deers, bluebill cow and mangoose.
Overall a good experiance for my kid and mom.
Tips:
1. If possible, try to go in early morning slots ( starts at 6 am) eapecially in summer. I went at 10 am slot, which is not a very good time. In early morning, as per guide, its easy to spot more wild animals since its an active time for them.
2. If you are on a budget, you can go in bus safari arranged by the park. Thats way cheaper and almost equally good. I opted for gypsy only because of lower risk in covid situation.
3. Gypsy can accomodate 6 adults and one kid at max. You can optimize your safari considering the above, since charges remain same.

Typically, this safari is visited by tourists who were not able to spot any lion in the national park safari. In this safari park, tourists are taken on a small ride in a bus, were one can sight different animals including lion. However, as this is within an enclosed area, this is more like a sophisticated zoo. Visit only if you were unable to spot a lion in safari.

We took a bus. The bus by itself was horrible but the driver was very informative and had a keen eye. He pointed out various animals and birds to us. On our tour which lasted for about 45min we saw leopards, a lion and lioness, jackals, many herds of deer, antelope, neelgai, eagle, vultures and owls. Surprisingly the only animal missing was the monkey! The bus was dirty and uncomfortable but the sightings made us forget all that. Also bought a notebook at the souvenir shop. The other items available were coasters, mugs, shirts, paper weight, etc.

Good 30 mins trip inside a closed park and you would love spotting Lions, Leopards, deers etc. Very good chances of spotting. Feels like an extended zoo though but good if you arent able to spot any in jungle trail. There are bus and jeep option. Jeep option better but costly.

Well maintained roads inside the jungle. you are sure to spot Lions near Rescue centre. Here online booking is must, if slots are available then some times walk in people may get ticket/ permit.
Better take Jeep service than going in Bus.

I visited devalia with my wife and kids... Did the trip in Gypsy. The controlled environment allows for assured sightings. The size of the park doesn't give the feeling that it's a drive-through in a zoo. It's well spread nd managed. The only let down is the enclosure for the leopards which is like in a zoo..but apparently these are captured notorious leopards or we were told. Worth a visit only if lions have not been seen in Gir sanctuary, else it's just a repeat with lesser excitement.

If you don't spot lion in gir safari then this is a best place to spot every animal in half an hour in affordable price. Opt always for bus safari instead of gypsy. Gypsy will cost u 3 times.

The Devaliya Safari is a safari for an hour in a controlled environment for the animals,
It's conducted in a caged jypsy as this is a relatively newer park and the animals have not got used to being around humans here.
This is like a small safari in which there are 2-3 routes and the jeeps take a small track to cover this area,
You have lions, leapords, black buck, blue bull, Deers here,
There are also Bus Safari tours at Devaliya along with Jypsy tours,
The cost is the same of the jypsy as the main Gir Lion Safari.
Cameras are allowed.
This is an experience which should only be had if you weren't able to go to the Gir Lion Safari in an open jeep for 3 hours slots as this is a very regular safari for an hour with a caged jeep and it's underwhelming in all senses.

Its no doubt a compromise, nevertheless a decent option in case you either don't have the time or haven't been able to get the permit (like us) for the longer 'real' Gir safari. Being a controlled environment, lion sightings are assured, and to be fair, it is not a total zoo feeling. So overall, not a bad option; but of course, not recommended for true-blue jungle safari adventure and thrill-seekers.
When we visited, the Gir Interpretition Zone was closed, which is a pity.

Devalia Safari Park is a place which cannot be missed if you are travelling to GIR . An enclosed area which gives you a feel of a small forest within a forest . Your adrnaline is sure to shoot when you spot a pride of lion and lioness with their cubs resting by a waterside may be , yawning , lazing and dosing at times . You see a tree with quite a number of leopards perched atop a tree . Not to speak of herd of deer. In the safety of a bus you can have this lovely experience .

How to reach Devalia safari park after online booking of permission from Somnath
Written 10 January 2020
Communication is very bad. You will get govt and private buses from Junagadh or Somnath or Prashi. Devalia entrance gate is 4km away from the bus stop and only local 3 wheelers are available. They charge 20 rupees per person.
This Gir forest is over-hyped. No point in wasting time and money.

Can I take one jeep for 2 diffrent permit
We are total only 5 person but I have 2 permit
Written 28 December 2019
Does clearly n properly jungle n animals view and photo shoot views r possible from coverd Jeep at Devaliya park ( Gir), I have little doubt about that becoz forest department is allowing only covered jeep for safari at Devaliya. So pls help me out if any one have Jeep's pic or how is it ?? Or share your experiences of Jeep Safari at Devaliya.

Bus: It depends on seat you get. If you are in last few to board the bus, you don't get better choice of seat. May be skip and try next bus window seat.
Jeep: Driver's cooperation can help you get good positions to take snaps.
Lastly, don't forget to relish the experience of seeing animals with your own naked eyes. No camera to substitute that experience! Make camera secondary, if you click just for facebook, Instagram....

Why only bus safari is advised at devaliya gir , why Jeep Safari is not suggested?? Plz clear it
Written 8 July 2019
It depends on person interest ,if you wish to relax you can opt jeep safari @ of higher cost compare to bus safari which is ok as we get only half to forty-five minutes of time.

Hi
I have booked my online ticket for jungle trip safari(6 - 9 ) for 1st April 2019. Now pls help me on following points
1. I will be reaching sasan gir by 6 PM of 31 March. I didnt book any safari jeep and guide. Will i get it next morning by 6 AM?
2. Is it advisable to visit Devaliatrp of half n hr if i already have a jungle trip of 3 hrs. ?
Written 5 February 2019
In response to your query --
1) As you have on line ticket gir forest safary you must get jeep and guide from there. But you have to reach at least one hr before the safary starts. It's for registration.
2) In my opinion you must visit Devalia because there is little chance to watch lion in jeep safary.
The no. of lions is decreasing day by day.

Yes, The jeeps have safety net. Normally, they won't take you too close to the lions. The lions get plenty of food. Normally, they just relax and won't attack unless you agitate them. They eat once a week and just relax. They sleep for 18 hrs per day.
